National biodiversity data infrastructures: ten essential functions for science, policy, and practice.

Today, at the international level, powerful data portals are available to biodiversity researchers and policymakers, offering increasingly robust computing and network capacities and capable data services for internationally agreed-on standards. These accelerate individual and complex workflows to map data-driven research processes or even to make them possible for the first time. At the national level, however, and alongside these international developments, national infrastructures are needed to take on tasks that cannot be easily funded or addressed internationally.

Introduction & Objectives: Agitation is a common complication after an acute TBI in ICU patients. Professionals have a range of strategies to address agitation. Yet the absence of evidence-based guidelines and how these strategies are implemented complicates the management and safety may often be compromised for both ICU professionals and patients.

Development and validation of a high-performance liquid chromatography method with fluorescence detection for the quantification of the resistance protein P-gp in cancer cells.

A method using high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with fluorescence detection (HPLC-FLD) was developed and validated to quantify the innovative tool LightSpot®-FL-1, a selective permeability-glycoprotein (P-gp)-targeted fluorescent conjugate used to measure P-gp expression in cell samples. Quantifying P-gp is a major challenge in oncology as its overexpression in many cancer cells results in Multidrug Resistance (MDR) associated with chemotherapy failure. To develop the method reported herein, both sample preparation and analysis parameters were investigated.

Off-label use of biologics in urticarial vasculitis: a European retrospective cohort study.

Objectives: Urticarial vasculitis (UV) is characterized by atypical urticarial lesions and leukocytoclastic vasculitis, sometimes with extracutaneous manifestations. First-line treatment is based on colchicine, hydroxychloroquine, dapsone or low-dose glucocorticoids. In refractory forms, the use of biologics has been anecdotally described as potentially effective.

EARLY REFEEDING AFTER COLORECTAL CANCER SURGERY REDUCES COMPLICATIONS AND LENGTH OF HOSPITAL STAY.

Background: Multimodal protocols such as Acceleration of Total Postoperative Recovery and Enhanced Recovery After Surgery propose a set of pre- and post-operative care to accelerate the recovery of surgical patients. Many indicators have been developed to assess the state of benthic communities and identify seabed habitats most at risk from bottom trawling disturbance. However, the large variety of indicators and their development and application under specific geographic areas and management contexts has made it difficult to evaluate their wider utility. We compared the complementarity/uniqueness, sensitivity, and selectivity of 18 benthic indicators to pressure of bottom trawling.

Occurrence and potential hazard posed by pharmaceutically active compounds in coastal waters in Cape Town, South Africa.

The occurrence of 58 pharmaceutically active compounds (PhACs) in surface water at 28 coastal and five river sites, and in two stormwater flows in Cape Town, South Africa, was investigated in winter and summer. After accounting for quality assurance and control data, 33 PhACs were considered in detail. In winter, 25 PhACs were found at one or more sites and 27 in summer.

Echocardiography Core Laboratory Methodology for TAVR: A Transatlantic Consensus.

Inter-echocardiography core laboratory (ECL) harmonization is pivotal to consider data from different ECLs interchangeable. On the basis of the experience of the first trans-Atlantic harmonization of 2 established ECLs in the field of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) trials, this review describes the harmonized ECL methodology in analyzing and adjudicating the post-TAVR echocardiographic endpoints according to Valve Academic Research Consortium 3 definitions. This review presents the feasibility and intra- and inter-ECL reproducibility, explains the root cause of potential important inter-ECL variability, and formulates ECL recommendations for optimal post-TAVR echocardiographic image acquisition.

Clinical features and genotype-phenotype correlations in epilepsy patients with de novo DYNC1H1 variants.

Objective: DYNC1H1 variants are involved on a disease spectrum from neuromuscular disorders to neurodevelopmental disorders. DYNC1H1-related epilepsy has been reported in small cohorts. Combination SGLT2 Inhibitor and Glucagon Receptor Antagonist Therapy in Type 1 Diabetes: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

Objective: To examine the effects of insulin-adjunctive therapy with a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor and a glucagon receptor antagonist (GRA) on glycemia, insulin use, and ketogenesis during insulinopenia in type 1 diabetes.

Research Design And Methods: In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover trial we assessed the effects of adjunctive SGLT2 inhibitor therapy (dapagliflozin 10 mg daily) alone and in combination with the GRA volagidemab (70 mg weekly) in 12 adults with type 1 diabetes. Continuous glucose monitoring, insulin dosing, and insulin withdrawal tests (IWT) for measurement of glucose and ketogenesis during insulinopenia were completed during insulin-only (Baseline), SGLT2 inhibitor, and combination (SGLT2 inhibitor + GRA) therapy periods.

Fat-containing hepatocellular carcinoma in patients with cirrhosis: proposal of a diagnostic modification regarding enhancement characteristics.
