Biological invasions pose significant threats to ecological and economic stability, with invasive pests like the Asian longhorned beetle ( Motschulsky, ALB) causing substantial damage to forest ecosystems. Effective pest management relies on comprehensive knowledge of the insect's biology and invasion history. This study uses genomics to address these knowledge gaps and inform existing biosurveillance frameworks.

Pseudomonas sp. LFM046 produces polyhydroxyalkanoates of medium-chain length. When carbohydrates are used, only monomers of even-length chains (3HA) are generated.

Its venom exhibited potent activity against plasma and fibrinogen, among other enzymatic activities. The patient initially presented with edema of the right upper limb, without tissue necrosis.

Here we report a field study on Western honey bees exposed to metal and metalloid pollution through dusts, food and water at a historic mining site. We analysed more than 1000 bees from five apiaries along a gradient of contamination within 11 km of a former gold mine in Southern France.

The practice is not without risk, as around 1300 people are poisoned each year by eating wild mushrooms on the French mainland. However, this practice is not part of local culture on Reunion Island, a French territory located in the Indian Ocean.

Inspired by tools developed for cross-sectional analyses, we propose indicators suitable for longitudinal study of the life course in a holistic perspective and a set of corresponding analysis guidelines. Two complementary indicators are introduced, marginality and gain, that allows labeling observations according to both their typicality within their group and their illustrativeness of a given quantitative relationship.

We therefore aimed to assess the geospatial distribution and determine the potential sources of (total-) mercury (THg) and microplastics (MPs) in mountain freshwater ecosystems. To do so, we analyzed THg and MP concentrations in brown trout, biofilm, and sediments from lotic and lentic ecosystems in the Pyrenees - all subjected to different types of human pressure.

Amanita phalloides is the most implicated species, responsible for over more than 90% of mushroom-related deaths. The α-amanitin is responsible for most of the observed effects.

Paleoenvironmental reconstructions provide information about the past and allow us to predict/model future scenarios. Among potential records, peat bogs are widely used because they present a precise stratigraphy and act as natural archives of highly diverse organic remains.

However, attempts to relate the use of geochemical landscapes by animal populations directly to reproductive output are currently lacking. Here we measured concentrations of 14 essential and non-essential elements in soil and vegetation samples collected in the Zackenberg valley, northeast Greenland, and linked these to environmental conditions to spatially predict and map geochemical landscapes.

Background: The Maternal Infant Responsiveness Instrument (MIRI) was developed in 2002 to measure a critical aspect of maternal-infant health. The objective of this analysis was to examine use, results, and continued relevance of the MIRI 20 years after its creation.
Methods: For the completion of this narrative review, 5 electronic databases were accessed using key search terms.
Previous studies on viper bites in France have focused on clinical consequences of envenomation, efficacy of antivenom and epidemiology of bites. Herein, we wanted to clarify temporal and spatial patterns in bite incidence using a fine spatial scale (municipality level). We focused on viper bites recorded over the last 10 years in 4 regions of western France.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOmbrotrophic peatlands are fed uniquely by atmospheric inputs and therefore have much potential as temporal archives of atmospheric microplastic (MP) deposition, yet the recovery and detection of MP within an almost purely organic matrix is challenging. This study presents a novel peat digestion protocol using sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) as a reagent for biogenic matrix removal. NaClO is more efficient than hydrogen peroxide (HO).

Background: Surgery for displaced intra-articular calcaneal fractures (DIACFs) is often followed by skin complications that adversely impacts the functional outcomes. Minimally invasive techniques have been developed to decrease the risk of skin complications. The objective of this study was to compare C-Nail® locking-nail fixation to conventional plate fixation for DIACFs.

Mountains are an essential component of the global life-support system. They are characterized by a rugged, heterogenous landscape with rapidly changing environmental conditions providing myriad ecological niches over relatively small spatial scales. Although montane species are well adapted to life at extremes, they are highly vulnerable to human derived ecosystem threats.

A retrospective observational study was conducted in all the reported cases from 2000 to 2020 in French poison control centers (PCCs). Two hundred and eighteen cases of bites were recorded.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFHuman-assisted movement has allowed the Asian longhorned beetle (ALB, (Motschulsky)) to spread beyond its native range and become a globally regulated invasive pest. Within its native range of China and the Korean peninsula, human-mediated dispersal has also caused cryptic translocation of insects, resulting in population structure complexity. Previous studies used genetic methods to detangle this complexity but were unable to clearly delimit native populations which is needed to develop downstream biosurveillance tools.
