A bifunctional catalyst comprising CuCl /Al O and nitrogen-doped carbon was developed for an efficient one-pot ethylene oxychlorination process to produce vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) up to 76 % yield at 250 °C and under ambient pressure, which is higher than the conventional industrial two-step process (≈50 %) in a single pass. In the second bed, active sites containing N-functional groups on the metal-free N-doped carbon catalyzed both ethylene oxychlorination and ethylene dichloride (EDC) dehydrochlorination under the mild conditions. Benefitting from the bifunctionality of the N-doped carbon, VCM formation was intensified by the surface Cl*-looping of EDC dehydrochlorination and ethylene oxychlorination.

A triazole-based novel bis Schiff base colorimetric and fluorescent chemosensor (L) has been designed, synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, H-NMR, ESI-MS, FTIR spectra and DFT studies. The receptor L showed selective and sensitive colorimetric sensing ability for Cu and Pb ions by changing color from colorless to yellow and light yellow respectively in CHOH-tris-buffer (1 : 1, v/v). However, it displayed strong fluorescence enhancement upon the addition of both Cu and Pb ions, attributed to the blocking of PET.

Increasing oil content in oilseed mustard () is a major breeding objective-more so, in the lines that have "0" erucic acid content (< 2% of the seed oil) as earlier studies have shown negative pleiotropic effect of erucic acid loci on the oil content, both in oilseed mustard and rapeseed. We report here QTL analysis of oil content in eight different mapping populations involving seven different parents-including a high oil content line J8 (~49%). The parental lines of the mapping populations contained wide variation in oil content and erucic acid content.

A simple and low cost multifunctional colorimetric receptor L has been designed, synthesized and characterized by H-NMR, IR spectroscopy, ESI-MS spectrometry and elemental analysis. The chemosensor L can selectively detect three biologically and environmentally important trivalent metal ions (Al, Feand Cr) both visually and spectrophotometrically in CHCN-HO (1 : 1, v/v) solution in the presence of other biologically relevant metal ions. The Job's plot analyses indicate the 2 : 2 binding stereochemistry for Al, Fe and Cr ions with L, which was further confirmed by H-NMR and ESI-MS studies.

The present study investigates the influence of cobalt doping on the structural and magnetic properties of TiO nanoparticles prepared by a simple wet chemical method. The single phase anatase structure of Co-doped TiO nanoparticles was confirmed by X-ray powder diffraction. A morphological study using scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy indicates the formation of TiO nanoparticles of sizes 6-10 nm.

Undoped and calcium substituted hematite (α-Fe₂O₃) nanoparticles are synthesized by surfactant-directed co-precipitation and post annealing method. The annealed nanoparticles were found to be in single phase in nature and crystallize in the rhombohedral structure with space group R3c as confirmed by Rietveld refinement of the X-ray diffraction (XRD) data. Average crystallite sizes are calculated to be 20 to 30 nm and 50 to 60 nm for the nanoparticles annealed at 400 and 600 °C respectively.

Copper(II) complex of 4-amino-3-hydroxy-1-sulphonic acid was synthesized and characterized. Upon addition of nitric oxide, the copper(II) center of the complex in methanol was found to undergo reduction through an unstable copper(II)-nitrosyl intermediate.
