Algae populate multiple habitats, including snow and ice, where they can form red blooms. These decrease snow albedo, accelerating snowmelt and potentially feeding back on snow and glacier decline caused by climate change. Quantifying this feedback requires the understanding of bloom evolution with climate change.

Influence of age and self-stigmatization on social eating and drinking issues in French outpatients living with and beyond head and neck cancer: a mixed-method study.

Purpose: Social eating (SE) is a corner stone of daily living activities, quality of life (QoL), and aging well. In addition to feeding functional disorders, patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) face individual and social psychological distress. In this aging population, we intended to better assess the influence of age on these challenges, and the role of self-stigmatization limiting SE in patients with and beyond HNC.

Case study: Recurrent uterine incarceration during pregnancy.

Background: Uterine incarceration is a rare complication of pregnancy. The most frequent complications are pain and urinary retention.

Case: We present the case of a patient who had presented a uterine incarceration during her first pregnancy, requiring a reduction under general anesthesia at 27 weeks of gestation complicated by premature delivery at 29 weeks of gestation.

Background: Cosmetic plastic surgery in the United States is underutilized by African American and Hispanic populations compared with their White and Asian counterparts. This study evaluated whether microeconomic spending traits as a representation of financial stability can inform trends in cosmetic procedure volumes by racial group.

Methods: Annual volumes for the top five cosmetic surgical and cosmetic minimally invasive procedures by racial/ethnic group from 2012 to 2020 were collected from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons' annual reports.

Glioblastoma is a highly heterogeneous and infiltrative form of brain cancer associated with a poor outcome and limited therapeutic effectiveness. The extent of the surgery is related to survival. Reaching an accurate diagnosis and prognosis assessment by the time of the initial surgery is therefore paramount in the management of glioblastoma.

Short-term outcomes following open gluteus maximus transfer for the management of hip abductor tears.

Tears of the gluteus medius and minimus are an important cause of recalcitrant greater trochanteric pain syndrome. Although endoscopic and open abductor repairs have demonstrated promising outcomes, the success of these techniques is dependent on the size of the tear and the quality of the tissue. In patients presenting with abductor insufficiency and evidence of previous repair failure, large retracted tears, muscle atrophy and/or fatty infiltration, reconstruction/augmentation techniques should be considered.

Head and neck (HN) squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) originate from the epithelial cells of the mucosal linings of the upper aerodigestive tract, which includes the oral cavity, the pharynx, the larynx, and the sinonasal cavities. There are many associated risk factors, including alcohol drinking coupled with tobacco use, which accounts for 70% to 80% of HNSCCs. Human papilloma virus (HPV) is another independent risk factor for oropharyngeal SCC, but it is only a minor contributor to oral cavity SCC (OSCC).

Professional burnout is a significant occupational hazard resulting in lower job commitment, poor patient outcomes, reduced performance, lower job satisfaction, and frequent absenteeism. Models exist that provide guidance in addressing burnout, improving resiliency, and well-being. Advancing evidence-based, multidisciplinary solutions to improve patient care by caring for the caregiver is the cornerstone to increasing resiliency, well-being, empathy, and gratitude.

National Practices Regarding Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Projects.

Background: AACN published a clarifying document in 2015 to guide Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs' DNP Scholarly Projects. This publication provided specific and general guidance; however, areas of inconsistent interpretation remained. The variability of best practices for DNP projects sparked the idea for a national survey to explore how projects are being carried out and to determine if the varied approaches align with AACN's 2015 recommendations.

DNP Team Projects: A Reflection of Team Science.

Background: Concern has been raised related to the rigor of DNP team projects due to the potential lack of individual opportunity for growth. However, team science, the scientific collaboration conducted by more than one individual in an interdependent fashion, is becoming standard practice for scientific inquiry and dissemination. DNP team projects provide an opportunity to demonstrate competencies related to collaboration, communication, organization, planning, reliability, accountability and acknowledgement of other opinions, expertise, and contributions.

Circulating autoantibodies neutralizing IFN-α, IFN-ω, and/or IFN-β are found in ∼20% of deceased patients across age groups, and in ∼1% of individuals aged <70 y and in >4% of those >70 y old in the general population. With a sample of 1,261 unvaccinated deceased patients and 34,159 individuals of the general population sampled before the pandemic, we estimated both IFR and relative risk of death (RRD) across age groups for individuals carrying autoantibodies neutralizing type I IFNs, relative to noncarriers.

Background: The use of COVID-19 vaccines has been prioritised to protect the most vulnerable-notably, older people. Because of fluctuations in vaccine availability, strategies such as delayed second dose and heterologous prime-boost have been used. However, the effectiveness of these strategies in frail, older people are unknown.

Use of Physiologically-Based Kinetics Modelling to Reliably Predict Internal Concentrations of the UV Filter, Homosalate, After Repeated Oral and Topical Application.

Ethical and legal considerations have led to increased use of non-animal methods to evaluate the safety of chemicals for human use. We describe the development and qualification of a physiologically-based kinetics (PBK) model for the cosmetic UV filter ingredient, homosalate, to support its safety without the need of generating further animal data. The intravenous (IV) rat PBK model, using PK-Sim, was developed and validated using legacy data generated prior to the 2013 EU animal-testing ban.
