Background: Non-infectious aortitis encompasses various histological patterns, but their specific cardiovascular outcomes remain unclear.
Objective: To evaluate the mortality associated with non-infectious surgical thoracic aortitis.
Methods: This retrospective multicenter study included patients who underwent thoracic aortic surgery and had histological evidence of aortitis.
Background: The prevalence and impact of right ventricular dysfunction (RVD) in degenerative mitral regurgitation (DMR) is unknown. We aimed to determine whether RVD assessed by echocardiography in routine clinical practice is independently associated with mortality in patients with DMR.
Methods And Results: We used data from the MIDA-Q (Mitral Regurgitation International DAtabase-Quantitative) registry, which included patients with isolated DMR due to mitral valve prolapse from January 2003 to January 2020 from 5 tertiary centers across North America, Europe, and the Middle East.
Purpose: Whether skin disinfection of the surgical site using chlorhexidine-alcohol is superior to povidone-iodine-alcohol in reducing reoperation and surgical site infection rates after major cardiac surgery remains unclear.
Methods: CLEAN 2 was a multicenter, open-label, randomized, two-arm, assessor-blind, superiority trial conducted in eight French hospitals. We randomly assigned adult patients undergoing major heart or aortic surgery via sternotomy, with or without saphenous vein or radial artery harvesting, to have all surgical sites disinfected with either 2% chlorhexidine-alcohol or 5% povidone-iodine-alcohol.
Background: Isolated posterior leaflet mitral valve prolapse (PostMVP), a common form of MVP, often referred as fibroelastic deficiency, is considered a degenerative disease. PostMVP patients are usually asymptomatic and often undiagnosed until chordal rupture. Our medicinal chemistry strategy relied on the design of new compounds using ring contraction/isosteric replacement and constrained analogy of known DYRK1A inhibitors, thus resulting in their DYRK1A inhibitory activity enhancement. Whereas a good inhibitory effect of targeted DYRK1A protein was observed for 5-hydroxy compounds 4i-k (IC = 35-116 nM) and the 5-methoxy derivative 4e (IC = 52 nM), a fairly good selectivity towards its known DYRK1B off-target was observed for 4k.

DSC1, a Drosophila channel with sequence similarity to the voltage-gated sodium channel (NaV), was identified over 20 years ago. This channel was suspected to function as a non-specific cation channel with the ability to facilitate the permeation of calcium ions (Ca2+). Background: Structural changes and myocardial fibrosis quantification by cardiac imaging have become increasingly important to predict cardiovascular events in patients with mitral valve prolapse (MVP). In this setting, it is likely that an unsupervised approach using machine learning may improve their risk assessment.
Objectives: This study used machine learning to improve the risk assessment of patients with MVP by identifying echocardiographic phenotypes and their respective association with myocardial fibrosis and prognosis.
Spatial patterns of genetic variation compared across species provide information about the predictability of genetic diversity in natural populations, and areas requiring conservation measures. Due to their remarkable fish diversity, rivers in Neotropical regions are ideal systems to confront theory with observations and would benefit greatly from such approaches given their increasing vulnerability to anthropogenic pressures.
