Background: Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction is proposed to be caused by endothelial dysfunction in cardiac microvessels. Our goal was to identify molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying the development of cardiac microvessel disease and diastolic dysfunction in the setting of type 2 diabetes.

Methods: We used (leptin receptor-deficient) female mice as a model of type 2 diabetes and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction and identified Hhipl1 (hedgehog interacting protein-like 1), which encodes for a decoy receptor for HH (hedgehog) ligands as a gene upregulated in the cardiac vascular fraction of diseased mice.

To understand the fine differential elements that can lead to or prevent acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in COVID-19 patients, it is crucial to investigate the immune response architecture. We herein dissected the multiple layers of B cell responses by flow cytometry and Ig repertoire analysis from acute phase to recovery. In the allopolyploid Brassica napus, we obtained a petal-closed flower mutation by ethyl methanesulfonate mutagenesis. Here, we report cloning and characterization of the Bn-CLG1A (CLG for cleistogamy) gene and the Bn-clg1A-1D mutant allele responsible for the cleistogamy phenotype. Bn-CLG1A encodes a RINGv E3 ubiquitin ligase that is highly conserved across eukaryotes.

The present study examines the contribution of combined sewer overflows (CSO) to loads and concentrations of trace contaminants in receiving surface water. A simple method to assess the ratio of CSO to wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) effluents was applied to the urban River Spree in Berlin, Germany.
