Sex Differences in Late-life Cognition: A Psychometric Network Analysis of Well-functioning Older Adults.

Objective: Unidentified sex differences in old-age cognition may emerge in psychometric networks, which look beyond mean scores into the unique cognitive structure of males and females. Accordingly, this study aims to examine cognition in well-functioning older males and females with psychometric network analysis.

Methods: The current cohort (N = 2,802) of community-dwelling adults (≥65 years) was derived from the Advanced Cognitive Training for Independent and Vital Elderly study.

Reliable technique for acromion density assessment on CT.

Introduction: Acromial stress fracture (ASF) is an uncommon but acknowledged complication of reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA). There is no standardised method to directly measure the bone mineral density of the acromion to allow a detailed analysis of the potential mechanism of ASF. The aim is to establish a reliable and reproducible technique for measurement of acromial density on computer tomography (CT).

Effect of a physiotherapy-directed rehabilitation programme on patients with multidirectional instability of the glenohumeral joint: a multimodal interventional MRI study protocol.

Introduction: Altered neuromuscular control of the scapula and humeral head is a typical feature of multidirectional instability (MDI) of the glenohumeral joint, suggesting a central component to this condition. A previous randomised controlled trial showed MDI patients participating in the Watson Instability Program 1 (WIP1) had significantly improved clinical outcomes compared with a general shoulder strength programme. The aim of this paper is to outline a multimodal MRI protocol to identify potential ameliorative effects of the WIP1 on the brain.

Pediatric Mechanical Circulatory Support: Introduction and Schneider's Experience.

Background: Ventricular assist devices (VADs) play a critical and increasing role in treating end-stage heart failure in pediatric patients. A growing number of patients are supported by VADs as a bridge to heart transplantation. Experience with VADs in the pediatric population is limited, and experience in Israel has not been published.

Adult Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and the Risk of Dementia.

Importance: Evidence that adult attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is associated with an increased risk of dementia is scarce and inconsistent, and potential sources of bias are untested.

Objective: To examine the association between adult ADHD and the risk of dementia.

Design, Setting, And Participants: This prospective national cohort study consisted of 109 218 members of a nonprofit Israeli health maintenance organization born between 1933 and 1952 who entered the cohort on January 1, 2003, without an ADHD or dementia diagnosis and were followed up to February 28, 2020.

Is cognition integral to psychopathology? A population-based cohort study.

Background: Lower cognitive functioning has been documented across psychiatric disorders and hypothesized to be a core deficit of mental disorders. Situating psychopathology and cognition as part of a unitary construct is therefore important to understanding the etiology of psychiatric disorders. The current study aims to test competing structural models of psychopathology and cognition in a large national cohort of adolescents.

Defining Reference Values for the Normal Adult Lisfranc Joint Using Weightbearing Computed Tomography.

The uninjured contralateral feet of consecutive patients undergoing cone-beam weightbearing computed tomography for acute Lisfranc injury between July 2017 and October 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. Of these, any cases with history or radiological evidence of trauma to the Lisfranc interval were excluded. The area of the non-weightbearing (NWBA) and weightbearing (WBA) Lisfranc joint was calculated (in mm) using a novel technique.

Myocarditis following COVID-19 vaccination in adolescents: Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging study.

Introduction: Vaccination-associated myocarditis was reported following COVID-19 vaccine initially among persons aged 16 or older and recently among adolescents aged 12-15.

Objectives: To describe the clinical and cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) characteristics of adolescents aged 12-15 with myocarditis following the administration of the BNT162b2 mRNA COVID-19 vaccine.

Methods: CMR of adolescents (age 12-15) with a clinical diagnosis of myocarditis within 42 days following the first COVID-19 vaccine were analyzed.

Prolonged mechanical ventilation after cardiac surgery: substudy of the Transfusion Requirements in Cardiac Surgery III trial.

Purpose: Prolonged mechanical ventilation (MV) is a major complication following cardiac surgery. We conducted a secondary analysis of the Transfusion Requirements in Cardiac Surgery (TRICTS) III trial to describe MV duration, identify factors associated with prolonged MV, and examine associations of prolonged MV with mortality and complications.

Methods: Four thousand, eight hundred and nine participants undergoing cardiac surgery at 71 hospitals worldwide were included.

Transthoracic intracardiac lines-A double edged sword.

Objective: Routine use of central venous access is needed in children undergoing open heart surgery for pressure monitoring and inotrope infusion. We sought to evaluate the efficiency and safety of routine use of transthoracic intracardiac lines (ICLs) in patients undergoing cardiac surgery and to compare them to patients who have been previously treated with traditional central venous lines (non-ICLs).

Methods: Retrospective review of charts of all patients who underwent cardiac surgery and had an ICL inserted in the operating room.

Opioid Exposure and the Risk of Dementia: A National Cohort Study.

Objectives: To examine the association between prescription opioid use and the risk of dementia in old-age, since existing studies of the association are few, and the evidence is inconsistent.

Design: Prospective national cohort study (N = 91,307, aged 60 years and over), without a dementia diagnosis for ten years, followed-up for incident dementia from January 2013 to October 2017.

Measurements: Opioid exposure was based on opioid purchases classified from Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical Classification system codes (N02A), and classified as exposed if the purchase period covered at least 60 days within a 120-day interval; otherwise, unexposed.

CMR Imaging 6 Months After Myocarditis Associated with the BNT162b2 mRNA COVID-19 Vaccine.

Temporal association between BNT162b2 mRNA COVID-19 vaccine and myocarditis (PCVM) has been reported. We herein present early and 6-month clinical follow-up and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) of patients with PVCM. A retrospective collection of data from 15 patients with PCVM and abnormal CMR was performed.

Serum folate deficiency and the risks of dementia and all-cause mortality: a national study of old age.

Background: The association between serum folate deficiency and the risk of dementia in old age is unclear, perhaps owing to small sample sizes, the competing risk of mortality or reverse causation.

Objective: To examine the associations between serum folate deficiency and the risks of incident dementia and all-cause mortality in a large national sample of older adults.

Methods: A prospective cohort aged 60-75 years (n=27 188) without pre-existing dementia for at least 10 years, was tested for serum concentrations of folate and followed up for dementia or all-cause mortality.

Gender differences in quality of life and the course of schizophrenia: national study.

Background: Evidence from various sources suggests that females with schizophrenia tend to report lower quality of life than males with schizophrenia despite having a less severe course of the disorder. However, studies have not examined this directly.

Aims: To examine gender differences in the association between quality of life and the risk of subsequent psychiatric hospital admissions in a national sample with schizophrenia.

Cognitive impairment networks in Alzheimer's disease: Analysis of three double-blind randomized, placebo-controlled, clinical trials of donepezil.

Psychometric network analysis is an alternative theoretically-driven analytic approach that has the potential to conceptualize cognitive impairment in Alzheimer's disease differently than was previously assumed and consequently detect unknown treatment effects. Based on individual participant data, extracted from three double-blind, randomized placebo-controlled clinical trials, psychometric networks were computed on observed Alzheimer's Disease Assessment Scale Cognitive Subscale scores at baseline (N=1,554) and on predicted change scores at 24 weeks of follow-up for participants who received donepezil (N=797) or placebo (N=484). Capturing adolescents in need of psychiatric care with psychopathological symptoms: A population-based cohort study.

Background: The current study aims to overcome past methodological limitations and capture adolescents in need of psychiatric care with psychopathological symptoms in a cohort with unrestricted access to mental health professionals.

Methods: The study source population consisted of a random sample of adolescents aged 16-17 years (N=1,369) assessed by the Israeli Draft Board. An adapted version of the Brief Symptom Inventory was used to identify clinically relevant psychopathological symptoms with scores categorized as severe if they were in the top 10th percentile of symptoms, otherwise not severe.

Ultrasound Cardiac Output Monitor (USCOM™) Measurements Prove Unreliable Compared to Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Adolescents with Cardiac Disease.

The purpose of this stuy is to prospectively assess the reliability of the ultrasound cardiac output monitor (USCOM™) for measuring stroke volume index and predicting left ventricular outflow tract diameter in adolescents with heart disease. Sixty consecutive adolescents with heart disease attending a tertiary medical center underwent USCOM™ assessment immediately after cardiac magnetic resonance imaging. USCOM™ measured stroke volume index and predicted left ventricular outflow tract diameter were compared to cardiac magnetic resonance imaging-derived values using Bland-Altman analysis.

Characterization of the Proximal Long Head of Biceps Tendon Anatomy Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging: Implications for Biceps Tenodesis.

Background: Biceps tenodesis is a common treatment for proximal long head of biceps (LHB) tendon pathology. To maintain biceps strength and contour and minimize cramping, restoration of muscle-length tension and appropriate positioning of the tenodesis is key. Little is known about the biceps musculotendinous junction (MTJ) anatomy, especially in relation to the overlying pectoralis major tendon (PMT), which is a commonly used landmark for tenodesis positioning.

Lumbar spine abnormalities and facet joint angles in asymptomatic elite junior tennis players.

Background: Lumbar spine abnormalities, in particular stress fractures to the pars interarticularis, are common in elite junior tennis players, though the difference in prevalence between males and females remains unclear. Further, facet joint orientation appears to be a possible option for recognizing which players might go on to present with a pars stress fracture. Given the link between pars stress fractures and low back pain in tennis players, it appears logical to explore the link between facet joint angle and pars abnormalities.

Knowledge is limited regarding the risks of death and dementia in very-late onset schizophrenia-like psychosis (VLOS). This study aims to scrutinize the associations between VLOS with the risks of death and dementia. Based on a prospective Israeli cohort study with national coverage, 94,120 persons without dementia or schizophrenia diagnoses aged 60 to 90 in 2012 were followed-up for the risks of dementia or death from 2013 to 2017.
