Neutrophil eccrine hidradenitis in a patient with AIDS.

Neutrophilic eccrine hidradenitis (NEH), first described as a rare, transient, and benign complication of various chemotherapy regimens for acute leukemia, has also been observed in other conditions, including three HIV-positive patients and even in otherwise healthy individuals (1-3). A similar histological pattern was described after intradermal bleomycin injections into normal human skin (4). We report the first case of NEH in a hemophilic HIV infected patient treated with stavudine, a new reverse transcriptase inhibitor.

Elastic fibers in scar tissue.

The capacity of the skin to be stretched and to return to its resting position is correlated to the quantity and to the quality of the elastic fiber network. Although elastic fibers have been demonstrated in scars, the time course of their appearance in scars and their role in scar elasticity has not been elucidated. A study was therefore undertaken to evaluate the elastic fiber network in scars.

Isolated dyskeratotic acanthoma. A variant of isolated epidermolytic acanthoma.

Disorders affecting the maturation of the epidermis are regarded as incidental findings in normal skin and otherwise unrelated benign lesions. These include epidermolytic hyperkeratosis, focal acantholytic dyskeratosis, and pagetoid dyskeratosis. The former two entities also occur as primary pathologic lesions.

Solubilization and functional reconstitution of the branched-chain alpha-keto acid transporter from rat heart mitochondria.

The mitochondrial branched-chain alpha-keto acid transporter was solubilized from rat heart mitochondria and its function was reconstituted in phospholipid vesicles. The transporter was extracted from mitoplasts with Triton X-114 in the presence of exogenous cardiolipin and alpha-ketoisocaproate. Upon incorporation of this extract into asolectin vesicles by the freeze-thaw-sonication technique, a p-chloromercuribenzoate-sensitive, protein-dependent transport of alpha-ketoisocaproate into the proteoliposomes was observed.
