This study investigates the early and late complications associated with vascular access procedures in a cohort of 1334 patients from Timiș County Emergency Clinical Hospital. Patients were categorized into early complications, occurring within 30 days postoperatively, and late complications, developing beyond this period.

This study analyzes for the first time uniformly and causally the level of pollution and air quality for the NE-Romania Region, one of the poorest region in the European Union. Knowing the level of pollution and air quality in this region, which can be taken as a benchmark due to its positional and economic-geographical attributes, responds to current scientific and practical needs. Large thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms due to chronic aortic dissection in patients with connective tissue disorders such as Loeys-Dietz syndrome present a challenging scenario, particularly in cases of variant anatomy and when patients are not candidates for conventional open repair. We demonstrate how by combining and modifying off-the-shelf devices during a hybrid procedure, one can create an endovascular solution tailored to the patient's complex anatomy, making use of an aberrant right subclavian artery, and allow for good clinical outcomes.

Background: Healthcare providers performing aerosol-generating procedures like airway management are at the highest risk for contamination with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). We developed an simulation (ISS) airway management training in confirmed or suspected COVID-19 patients for emergency and anesthesiology staff, evaluated participants' reactions, and identified perceived challenges.

Methods: We used a cross-sectional study design incorporating a quantitative questionnaire to describe participants' reaction to the ISS and a qualitative group interview using the plus-delta debriefing modality to explore participants' challenges in acquiring the knowledge and skills required for each learning objective.

Case Report: The novel Heli-Fx EndoAnchor system (Medtronic Vascular, Santa Rosa, CA, USA) was used to deploy helical anchors in the distal aortic arch during a procedure to correct a type 1A endoleak following Zone 2 thoracic endovascular aortic repair of a saccular proximal descending thoracic aorta aneurysm (DTAA). The patient developed ST-segment elevations principally in the inferior leads and severe hypotension moments after EndoAnchor deployment at the proximal edge of the endograft.

Physical aging or degradation of amine-containing polymers and supported amine adsorbents is a critical issue that could limit the practical application of such materials for CO capture. However, to date, there is a scarcity of studies that evaluate the long-term stability of amine-based sorbents without the exclusive use of accelerated aging tests. Here, we demonstrate that extended aging (∼2 years) of linear poly(propylenimine) (LPPI) confined in mesoporous silica (SBA-15) supports does not drastically impact the CO adsorption performance under simulated flue gas (10% CO) and direct air capture (DAC, 400 ppm CO) conditions, although the behavior of the aged sorbents and polymers in the two CO concentration regimes differs.

Particles with a superparamagnetic cobalt inner core, silica outer core, and covalently bound homopolypeptide shell were investigated under thermal and magnetic stimuli. The homopolypeptide was poly(ε-carbobenzyloxy-l-lysine), PCBL, which is known to exhibit a thermoreversible coil ⇔ helix transition when dissolved as a pure polymer in cresol. Tethering to a core particle did not prevent PCBL from undergoing this conformational transition, as confirmed by dynamic light scattering and optical rotation, but the transition was broadened compared to that of the untethered polymer.

Many natural and synthetic polymers and particles have a rodlike shape, leading to important and intriguing solution behavior, such as high intrinsic viscosities and liquid crystalline phases. Much of what is known about suspensions of rods has been learned by studying helical polypeptides, even though such molecules are not perfectly rigid, smooth cylinders. Previous optical tracer self-diffusion studies of poly(γ-benzyl-α,l-glutamate) (PBLG) revealed that the molecule initially resists topological constraints imposed by neighboring molecules, but diffusion strongly decreases as concentration rises beyond a certain number density.

We demonstrate that the molecular structure of a synthetic homopolypeptide that resembles the leg architecture of water strider insects is effective to impart flexible polymeric surfaces with superhydrophobic behavior. Filter paper (FP) and polyester (PET) were modified with a coating consisting of low-molecular weight α-helical poly(γ-stearyl-α,l-glutamate) (PSLG, M = 4500 Da) homopolypeptide. PSLG-coated substrates displayed near to and superhydrophobic behavior (≥150°) as reflected by the contact angle values.

Despite excellent results in high volume centers, open repair of aortic arch pathology is highly invasive, and can result in significant morbidity and mortality in high risk patients. Near-total and hybrid approaches to aortic arch disease states have emerged as an alternative for patients deemed moderate to high risk for conventional repair. Advantages of these approaches include avoidance of extracorporeal circulation and hypothermic circulatory arrest as well as avoidance of cross clamping, all of which are not well tolerated in high risk patients.
