Cisplatin is a chemotherapeutic drug, which exhibits undesirable side effects. Chitosan nanoparticles are promising for drug delivery. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of the brown alga Turbinaria triquetra ethyl acetate fraction and polysaccharides, either loaded on chitosan nanoparticles or free, against podocyturia and cisplatin nephrotoxicity in rats.

DZH2, a dual inhibitor of the chemokine receptors CCR5 and CXCR4, was discovered from virtual screening for CCR5 antagonists. In specific Ca chemokine signaling assays, DZH2 displayed low micromolar IC values at both chemokine receptors. Its binding to intracellular allosteric binding sites of CCR5 and CXCR4 was confirmed by MD simulations and binding free-energy calculations.

Article Synopsis
  • Drying is an important method for preserving food like apples by reducing moisture, which extends shelf life and decreases storage costs.
  • An infrared dryer tested different apple slice thicknesses (2, 4, and 6 mm) and varying conditions (infrared intensity and airflow), revealing that higher infrared intensity led to shorter drying times, while thicker slices took longer to dry.
  • Overall, the study found that factors like thickness, infrared intensity, and airflow impacted drying efficiency, water activity, and color changes in dehydrated apples, with the best drying model based on Midilli et al.'s work.

A non-negligible part of our DNA has been proven to be transcribed into non-protein coding RNA and its intricate involvement in several physiological processes has been highly evidenced. The significant biological role of non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), including long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) has been variously reported. In the current review, the authors highlight the multifaceted role of myocardial infarction-associated transcript (), a well-known lncRNA, in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

The concept of 'Hallmarks of Cancer' is an approach of reducing the enormous complexity of cancer to a set of guiding principles. As the underlying mechanism of cancer are portrayed, we find that we gain insight and additional aspects of the disease arise. The understanding of the tumor microenvironment (TME) brought a new dimension and led to the discovery of novel hallmarks such as senescent cells, non-mutational epigenetic reprogramming, polymorphic microbiomes and unlocked phenotypic plasticity.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study examined how different infrared drying settings affect the drying process of apples, focusing on factors like drying time, moisture diffusion, and activation energy based on slice thickness, radiation intensity, and air velocity.
  • - Results indicated that increasing infrared intensity decreases drying time, while higher airflow and thicker apple slices tend to increase it.
  • - The Midilli et al. equation proved to be the most effective for modeling the drying curves, achieving optimal accuracy compared to other mathematical models, with moisture diffusivity values ranging from 2.59 to 9.07 × 10^-9 m²/s and activation energy between 19.02-29.83 kJ/mol across various conditions.

Background: Squamous cell carcinoma of the bladder (SqCC) is a rare disease with limited management data. Thus, we sought to characterize the clinicopathologic and survival outcomes amongst patients with SqCC and explore the association of squamous differentiation within urothelial carcinoma (UC w/Squam), as compared to muscle invasive pure UC.

Methods: We conducted a single-center retrospective cohort study of patients, stratified by histology, who underwent cystectomy for MIBC.

Objective: To assess the role of influential figures within social media (SoMe) in driving future citations.

Methods: All original articles published in the Journal of Urology and European Urology in 2018 were identified. For each article, number of mentions on any SoMe platform, article's Twitter reach, and total citations were collected.

Objective: To describe rates of urology consultation following renal trauma and assess subsequent impact on imaging and intervention. Renal trauma may be initially managed by either trauma or urologic surgeons alone or collaboratively. Differences in management between the specialties are not well studied.

Objective: To examine opioid use following Urological trauma. Increased opioid use is associated with inferior outcomes and risk of dependence, particularly in vulnerable populations. In contrast, multimodal analgesia following trauma allows decreased pain and readmission.

The symptoms of testosterone deficiency have been known throughout history with evidence dating back to the twenty-first century BCE when men were castrated to be docile and obedient servants. Experimentation ingesting mammalian testicles began during the reign of the Roman empire and continued through the nineteenth century with claims that the substance found within these testicles could improve energy, erectile function, and urination. In the twentieth century, studies transplanting animal testes onto other castrated animals suggested that a substance produced in the testicle was responsible for systemic effects.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines surgical management options for muscle invasive bladder cancer in women, focusing on reproductive organ-sparing (ROS) versus non-organ-sparing approaches and their impact on survival outcomes.
  • A total of 289 women were analyzed between 2000 and 2020, finding no significant differences in positive margin rates or survival metrics (recurrence-free, cancer-specific, and overall) between those who underwent ROS and those who did not.
  • The results suggest that ROS does not compromise oncologic control, and it is recommended to consider ROS for patients with advanced disease and variant histology during surgical planning.

Hemangiomas are benign proliferations of blood vessels, and urethral hemangiomas are extremely rare presentations of this condition. As the condition is quite rare, there is very little literature about best management strategies. The best resources for determining management are case reports which focus on treatment via transurethral ablation or endoscopic resection.

Palmoplantar skin has several unique characteristics such as increased thickness, high resilience, hypopigmentation, and lack of hair follicles. The establishment of palmoplantar identity occurs through keratinocyte‒fibroblast interactions, with keratin 9 expression and Wnt signaling playing key roles. Understanding how palmoplantar features develop may help efforts to reproduce them at both palmoplantar and nonpalmoplantar body sites.

This randomized, open-label, active-controlled study investigated the safety and efficacy of three doses of Rolontis (eflapegrastim), a novel, long-acting myeloid growth factor, versus pegfilgrastim in breast cancer patients being treated with docetaxel and cyclophosphamide (TC). The primary efficacy endpoint was duration of severe neutropenia (DSN) during the first cycle of treatment. Patients who were candidates for adjuvant/neoadjuvant TC chemotherapy were eligible for participation.

Background:  Microsurgery fellowships have become an integral part of every plastic surgery training program. While each subspecialty differs in terms of reconstructive requirements, the basic tenets and skill sets remain the same. We explore the possibility of designing a clinical curriculum for microsurgery that can provide residents and fellows with a more foundational and structured approach to microsurgical training.
