A community-based diabetic foot screening campaign was introduced during one week in the French-speaking part of Switzerland to emphasize the preventive impact of systematic foot inspections. Of 494 screened people, 46 % never had their feet checked - and as many as 63% if only standardized examinations according to the recommendations are considered. The risk of diabetic foot complications may appear as early as a few years after diagnosis, underlining the importance of a systematic annual check-up.

This study compares ultrasonic wave propagation modeling and experimental data in concrete. As a consequence of its composition and manufacturing process, this material has a high elastic scattering (sand and aggregates) and air (microcracks and porosities) content. The behavior of the "Waterman-Truell" and "Generalized Self Consistent Method" dynamic homogenization models are analyzed in the context of an application for strong heterogeneous solid materials, in which the scatterers are of various concentrations and types.

This paper describes a tunable X-ray focusing apparatus, referred to as a transfocator, based on compound refractive lenses. By varying the number of lenses in the beam, the X-ray energy focused and the focal length can be varied continuously throughout a large range of energies and distances. The instrument can be used in both white and monochromatic beams to focus, pre-focus or collimate the beam.

The performance of an indirectly cooled cryogenic silicon monochromator under heat loads up to 870 W has been studied. The investigation was performed over numerous parameters and included measurements of total flux, spectral density, rocking curves, angular beam profiles and crystal slope errors. An almost ideal monochromator performance was observed in the 270-570 W range of the heating power.
