A high-fat diet could lead to obesity, increasing colorectal cancer risk due to dyslipidemia and chronic inflammation, while Piper betle (PB) exhibits anti-tumor, anti-inflammation, and anti-oxidant benefits. This study aimed to determine whether PB possesses chemopreventive effects on high-fat diet (HFD)-induced and azoxymethane (AOM)-induced colon cancer. Male Sprague-Dawley rats receiving either a normal diet or HFD were divided into control, PB, AOM, and AOM+PB subgroups which were then sacrificed after 24 weeks.

Background: Chronic diseases pose significant threats to persons' well-being and mental health leading to stress, anxiety and depression without effective resilience strategies. However, experiences to gain resilience in living with chronic disease in the context of Asian countries remain insufficiently explored. This review seeks to provide a comprehensive summary of qualitative evidence that explores the lived experience that cultivates resilience in chronic diseases among adults within Asian countries.

Understanding the patients' clinical profile, barriers to optimal inhaler use, and adherence are crucial in achieving the treatment goal for asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This study aimed to assess the inhaler technique and identify the predictors of inhaler adherence among asthma and COPD patients who presented to the Emergency Department (ED). This prospective cross-sectional study recruited patients who presented to the outpatient ED of a tertiary hospital for mild-to-moderate exacerbation from March 2022 to February 2023.

A profound grasp of anatomy is indispensable for shaping competent and safe medical practitioners. This knowledge acquisition is pivotal in the early stages of medical education and remains crucial throughout clinical training. However, the evolving landscape of medical education has ushered in changes to the anatomy curriculum, marked by a reduction in contact hours and a streamlined content structure to accommodate novel subjects and teaching methodologies.

Background: Research on microplastics has largely focused on the environment and marine organisms until recently. A growing body of evidence has detected microplastics in human organs and tissues, with their exact entry routes being unclear and their potential health effects remain unknown. This scoping review aimed to characterise microplastics in human tissues and organs, examine their entry routes and addressing gaps in research analytical techniques.

The development of probiotics has now included the areas along the gut-vaginal axis. We thus aimed to investigate the effects of lactobacilli probiotic to modulate and restore vaginal and gut microbiota of pregnant women with vaginal candidiasis (VC). A randomised, double-blind and placebo-controlled study was performed in 78 pregnant women with VC.

Background: The Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic occurred due to the dispersion of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Severe symptoms can be observed in COVID-19 patients with lipid-related comorbidities such as obesity and diabetes. Yet, the extensive molecular mechanisms of how SARS-CoV-2 causes dysregulation of lipid metabolism remain unknown.

Unlabelled: We recently reported that messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination was associated with flares in 9% of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Herein, we focused our analysis on patients from a multi-ethnic Southeast Asian lupus cohort with the intention of identifying distinct phenotypes associated with increased flares after mRNA COVID-19 vaccination.

Methods: Six hundred and thirty-three SLE patients from eight public healthcare institutions were divided into test and validation cohorts based on healthcare clusters.

Objectives: There is limited data on the relative effectiveness of different techniques used for administering genicular nerve block (GNB) for pain management of chronic knee osteoarthritis (OA) in the Malaysian population. This study aims to determine and compare the effectiveness of GNB administered using two pain management techniques?"anatomical landmark-guided (ALG) and ultrasound-guided (USG)?"for chronic knee OA in this population.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study included 40 patients with chronic knee OA who received GNB, 20 of whom underwent treatment with the USG technique and the other 20 with the ALG technique.

The utilization of phthalates and bisphenol A (BPA) as the major component in plastic and its derivative industry has raised concerns among the public due to the harmful effects caused by these organic pollutants. These pollutants are found to exhibit unique physicochemical properties that allow the pollutants to have prolonged existence in the environment, thus causing damage to the environment. Since phthalates and bisphenol A are used in a variety of industrial applications, the industry must recover these compounds from its water before releasing the pollutants into the environment.

Esters of 2- and 3-monochloropropanediol (2-MCPDE, 3-MCPDE) and glycidol (GE) are regarded as process contaminants that are found in refined vegetable oils and oil-based foods. Since glycerol is produced during fat splitting, saponification and biodiesel production, it is important to have methods for determining contaminants that might be formed during these processes. Due to the use of glycerol as a food additive, data on the presence of compounds of toxicological concern, including 3-MCPD, are of interest.

Background: Sequence variation has been attributed to symptom variations but has not been investigated in Orange Spotting-Coconut cadang-cadang viroid (OS-CCCVd) infected palms. Likewise, the relationship between Coconut cadang-cadang viroid (CCCVd) variants, Orange Spotting (OS) severity and the accumulation of the viroid in the palms have not been elucidated. This paper describes the characterization of CCCVd variants by cloning and sequencing, followed by correlation with symptom expression.

Purpose Of Review: Esophageal disorders, including gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), and esophageal cancer, may be affected by climate change. Our review describes the impact of climate change on risk factors associated with esophageal diseases and speculates how these climate-related factors impacted esophageal disorders and their management.

Recent Findings: Climate change is responsible for extreme weather conditions (shifts in rainfall, floods, droughts, and forest fires) and global warming.

Objective: To determine prevalence and factors associated with flares post Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) mRNA vaccination in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and spondyloarthritis (SpA).

Methods: A retrospective multi-centre study was conducted (January 2021 to February 2022). Data were collected during index visit, defined as first post-vaccine visit in which the patient had a physician-defined flare, or if at least 3 months had elapsed since first vaccine dose, whichever came first.

Background: Chatbots have the potential to enhance health care interaction, satisfaction, and service delivery. However, data regarding their acceptance across diverse patient populations are limited. In-depth studies on the reception of chatbots by patients with chronic autoimmune inflammatory diseases are lacking, although such studies are vital for facilitating the effective integration of chatbots in rheumatology care.

Introduction: When dental institutions had to close down during the Movement Control Order (MCO) implementation due to the COVID-19 pandemic, dental students were faced with delays in completing their tobacco cessation schedule. An alternative was to allow students to conduct virtual counselling (VC) for smoking cessation for their patients to address their clinical requirements. This study aimed to explore Malaysian dental undergraduates' and patients' experiences undergoing smoking cessation counselling through virtual platforms.

Bronchospasm is caused by reversible constriction of the smooth muscles of the bronchial tree. This causes obstruction of the lower airways, which is commonly seen at the emergency department (ED) in patients with acute exacerbation of asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Ventilation may be difficult in mechanically intubated patients with severe bronchospasm due to airflow limitation, air trapping, and high airway resistance.
