Glycosylation is a prominent posttranslational modification, and alterations in glycosylation are a hallmark of cancer. Glycan-binding receptors, primarily expressed on immune cells, play a central role in glycan recognition and immune response. Here, we used the recombinant C-type glycan-binding receptors CD301, Langerin, SRCL, LSECtin, and DC-SIGNR to recognize their ligands on tissue microarrays (TMA) of a large cohort (n = 1859) of invasive breast cancer of different histopathological types to systematically determine the relevance of altered glycosylation in breast cancer.

Strumal carcinoid represents a rare form of ovarian teratoma, consisting of both thyroid tissue and carcinoid structures. The carcinoid component is a well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumor with excellent prognosis. Strumal carcinoid tumors are commonly found in peri-menopausal women who are not usually interested in preserving their fertility and who are thus open to radical surgical treatment.

In light of the widespread phenomena of diet failure and excessive dieting, this paper presents a theoretical economic analysis of the decision-making process of weight-loss dieting. The paper incorporates behavioral elements involved in the process of dieting: effort exerted in dieting, influence of social norms concerning body weight, time-inconsistent present biased preferences, and a distinction between naiveté and sophistication. The model explains cyclic dieting and provides interesting insights on the extent of weight-loss dieting.

The human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1) transactivator (Tax) has been shown to interfere with regulated cellular proliferation. Many studies have focused on the ability of Tax to transform rodent fibroblasts; however, none has defined the molecular requirements for Tax transformation of human lymphoid cells. We show here that tax induces permanent growth of human primary T-lymphocytes by using a transformation/immortalization defective rhadinovirus vector.

The human T-cell leukemia/lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1) induces a malignant lymphocytic disease. The HTLV-1 transactivator protein, Tax, is believed to be crucial for the development of the disease since it is transforming in vitro and induces tumors in transgenic animals. Although the transcriptional modulation of viral and cellular gene expression by Tax has been analyzed thoroughly, it has remained unclear how the Tax functions act on the cell cycle of primary T cells.

The paper is concerned with the evidence on correlations of psychopathological and pathopsychological aspects of disturbed thinking, obtained on the basis of clinico-psychopathological and pathopsychological examinations of schizophrenic patients. Four traits of correlations between pathology of thinking with psychopathological structures are discussed. The paper contains some explanations with respect to the reasons for relatively intact thinking in experimental psychological testing.
