Glioblastoma tumors remain a formidable challenge for immune-based treatments because of their molecular heterogeneity, poor immunogenicity, and growth in the largely isolated and immunosuppressive neural environment. As the tumor grows, GBM cells change the composition and architecture of the neural extracellular matrix (ECM), affecting the mobility, survival, and function of immune cells such as tumor-associated microglia and infiltrated macrophages (TAMs). We have previously described the unique expression of the ECM protein EFEMP1/fibulin-3 in GBM compared to normal brain and demonstrated that this secreted protein promotes the growth of the GBM stem cell (GSC) population.

Introduction - In adults, protrusion of intussuscepted sigmoid growth through the anal canal is exceedingly rare, with only 9 cases being reported till date. Most cancer patients die as a consequence of distant metastases, which are frequently unresponsive to cancer therapy. This study focuses on the anti-tumorigenic and anti-metastatic properties of tangeretin-zinc oxide quantum dots (Tan-ZnO QDs) against the NCI-H358 cell line. Tan-ZnO QDs are pH-sensitive and capitalize on the acidic pH maintained in the tumor microenvironment; therefore, targeted drug delivery is directed specifically to cancer cells, leaving the normal cells less affected.

Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) are known to play an important role in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases, including Parkinson's disease (PD), by inducing protein aggregation and cross-link, formation of Lewy body, and neuronal death. In this study, we observed that AGE-albumin, the most abundant AGE product in the human PD brain, is synthesized in activated microglial cells and accumulates in the extracellular space. AGE-albumin synthesis in human-activated microglial cells is distinctly inhibited by ascorbic acid and cytochalasin treatment.
