Objective: Interstage home monitoring (IHM) programs are considered standard of care after Norwood palliation and have led to substantial improvements in clinical outcomes. This study aims to evaluate an application-based remote IHM program for infants with shunt- or duct-dependent pulmonary circulation. The primary goals were to discharge infants from the hospital while minimizing mortality, optimizing somatic growth, and enhancing caregivers' confidence in the clinical management at home.

While construct validity of FARS-ADL has been shown for spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA), content validity has not been established.
Methods: Individuals with SCA1 or SCA3 (n = 7) and healthcare professionals (HCPs) with SCA expertise (n = 8) participated in qualitative interviews evaluating the relevance, clarity, and clinical meaningfulness of FARS-ADL for assessment of individuals with SCA.
Introduction: Lipid screening identifies at-risk patients to facilitate cardiovascular risk reduction. National pediatric guidelines recommend universal lipid screening between 9-11 and 17-21 years of age. We aimed to improve adherence to lipid screening for all age-appropriate outpatient pediatric cardiology visits from a baseline of 35% to 90% between November 2021 and July 2023.

By identifying clinical gaps and employing a structured approach to integrate EBP and QI, nurses can effectively implement best practices tailored to evolving healthcare needs. Ultimately, this article provides a comprehensive framework for nurses to leverage EBP and QI collaboratively, thereby advancing nursing practice and improving patient care.

Functional MRI is a powerful tool for studying functional changes in the olfactory brain regions in patients with Parkinson's disease. However, existing studies show inconsistent results and no study has measured olfactory functional MRI abnormalities in the human olfactory bulb directly.

The relationship between α-syn strain dynamics and clinical performance as patients transition from normal cognition (NC) to cognitive impairment (CI) is not known. Here, we show that the biophysical properties and neurotoxicity of α-syn strains change as PD cognitive status transitions from NC to mild cognitive impairment (PD-MCI) and dementia (PD-D).

Methods And Patients: We retrospectively analyzed outcomes of ABO-incompatible HTx procedures performed at our center and compared the data to ABO-compatible HTx of the same era. Eighteen children (<17 months) underwent pediatric HTx and seven of them underwent ABO-incompatible HTx between 2003 and 2015.
Accurate staging improves lung cancer survival by increasing the chances of delivering stage-appropriate therapy. However, there is underutilization of, and variability in, the use of guideline-recommended diagnostic tests used to stage lung cancer. Consequently, the American Cancer Society National Lung Cancer Roundtable (ACS NLCRT) convened the Triage for Appropriate Treatment Task Group-a multidisciplinary expert and stakeholder panel-to identify knowledge and/or resource gaps contributing to guideline-discordant staging and make recommendations to overcome these gaps.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLung nodules are frequently detected on low-dose computed tomography scans performed for lung cancer screening and incidentally detected on imaging performed for other reasons. There is wide variability in how lung nodules are managed by general practitioners and subspecialists, with high rates of guideline-discordant care. This may be due in part to the level of evidence underlying current practice guideline recommendations (primarily based on findings from uncontrolled studies of diagnostic accuracy).

PSP is characterized by the accumulation of tau protein in specific brain regions, leading to loss of balance, gaze impairment, and dementia. Diagnosing PSP is challenging, and there is a significant demand for reliable biomarkers.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the United States and across the world. The American Cancer Society National Lung Cancer Roundtable (ACS NLCRT) was established in 2017 as a consortium of public, private, and voluntary organizations with a mission to lower the impact of lung cancer via prevention, early detection, and optimal therapy. The ACS NLCRT supports a comprehensive scope of work that covers the lung cancer continuum, from risk reduction, tobacco prevention and control, and early detection (screening and incidental lung nodule management) to guideline-based staging, biomarker testing, treatment, and survivorship and overarching issues such as stigma and nihilism, health equity, and tactical approaches such as state coalition efforts and policy initiatives.

Methods: This study was a process evaluation of the Collaborative Behavioral Health Program (CBHP) study (NCT04321876) in which CoCM was implemented in 11 primary care practices.
Aims: Heart transplantation is a well-established treatment for end-stage heart failure in paediatric patients, demonstrating excellent long-term outcomes.
Methods: This retrospective study analyses 35 years of data on 244 paediatric recipients (<18 years) at a single institution from 1986 to 2022. The analysis explores changes in diagnoses, survival, waiting times and mechanical circulatory support (MCS) over three decades (1991-2000, 2001-2010 and 2011-2020).
Aim: Optimal selection and allocation of donor hearts is a relevant aspect in transplantation medicine. Donor age and cardiac allograft vasculopathy (CAV) affect post-transplant mortality. To what extent donor age impacts intimal hyperplasia (CAV) in pediatric and adult patients after heart transplantation (HTx) is understudied.

Thus, developing a cognitive endpoint measure specifically assessing executive functioning is critical for PD clinical trials. The objective of this study was to develop a cognitive composite measure that is sensitive to decline in executive functioning for use in PD clinical trials.

Summary Background Data: Overprescribing of opioids for pain management after surgery has become a public health concern and major contributor to opioid misuse and dependency. Current guidelines do not address opioid prescribing following emergency surgical procedures, highlighting the importance of understanding the relationship between opioid prescribing and consumption in this setting.
