In summary, the development of programs in the community serving the severely and chronically mentally ill is a political-sociological activity requiring a detailed working knowledge of the community to be involved, a clear understanding of objectives and specific agreements related to the program to be developed, adequate and stable funding, appropriate supportive and ancillary resources, significant bureaucratic skill and flexibility, adequate time for appropriate community education and feedback from key community leaders, a certain amount of clairvoyance in anticipating difficulties and unexpected problems, an immense amount of perseverance and, finally--and probably as important as any other single element--timing and luck.

Differential effect of morphine on trigeminal nucleus versus reticular aversive stimulation: independence of negative effects from stimulation parameters.

A patient with typical features of Noonan's syndrome showed aortic regurgitation and widespread diffuse hyperpigmentation, features not previously associated with this syndrome. Detailed endocrine and dermatological studies failed to delineate the cause of hyperpigmentation. In addition to mild aortic regurgitation, cardiac catheterization revealed mild left ventricular dysfunction, probably due to primary myocardial disease.

A rapid radioimmunoassay for TRH with a high degree of specificity and sensitivity is described. The procedure is capable of measuring TRH in amounts less than 15 pg/tube. Such an assay system has enabled us to study the effect of hypoglycemia on hypothalamic TRH content.
