The association between skin allergy testing and oral squamous cell carcinoma in oral lichen planus: a retrospective cohort study.

There is a reported association between oral contact allergy and oral lichen planus (OLP). Likewise oral squamous cell carcinoma (oSCC) is associated with OLP. It is hypothesized that chronic inflammation may contribute to oSCC risk.

Surgical explantation of atrial septal closure devices for refractory nickel allergy symptoms.

Objectives: Systemic allergic reactions to nickel alloys in percutaneous atrial septal defect occlusion devices have a poorly defined natural history. We describe our experience of surgical removal of the offending device in a series of patients with nickel allergy and refractory symptoms.

Methods: Patients with atrial septal defect device explants for nickel allergy were reviewed.

Non-Melanoma Skin Cancer Risk Among Patients in the Psoriasis Longitudinal Assessment and Registry (PSOLAR).

To the Editor: Patients with psoriasis are at increased risk of developing non melanoma skin cancer (NMSC), including squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and basal cell carcinoma (BCC).1,2 The risk is especially elevated among those who previously received systemic treatment or phototherapy.2 Systemic treatments, including biologic therapies and methotrexate (MTX), are effective in managing immune-mediated diseases; however, they may increase susceptibility to NMSC due to immunosuppression or other factors.

Desired Improvement Tool (DIT): A tool to assess desire for improvement in psoriasis patients.

No validated instrument exists to measure desire for improvement in psoriasis patients. To address this void, we conducted a single-center longitudinal study of 268 moderate-to-severe psoriasis patients to psychometrically validate the Desired Improvement Tool (DIT). The DIT is a single-item instrument scored 0-5 by the patient.
