Vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) is a prevalent women's infection characterized by excessive inflammation and damage of the vaginal epithelium that, in its recurrent form (RVVC), causes more than three symptomatic episodes per year, impacting nearly 8% of women globally. Current antifungal treatments alleviate symptoms but often fail to restore the inflammatory homeostasis of mucosal tissue and prevent recurrences. α-Tocopherol (α-TOH) and garcinoic acid (GA), a vitamin E metabolite, with immunomodulatory properties, were investigated for the first time in vaginal epithelial cells exposed to infection to assess their effects on inflammatory signaling parameters important to restore cellular homeostasis.

Therefore, targeting ZNF217 has been proposed as a possible strategy to fight cancer, and there has been much research on compounds that can target ZNF217. The present work investigates the chemo-preventive properties of cucurbitacin D, a compound with a broad range of anticancer effects, in hematological cancer cells, specifically with regard to its ability to modulate ZNF217 expression.

Methods: RACK1 expression was analyzed in intestinal mucosal samples of healthy and IBD patients, in mice with chemically induced colitis, and in diseased in vitro 2D and 3D coculture models by luciferase assay, reverse transcription-quantitative PCR, Western blotting, immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemistry. Based on our finding that glucocorticoid-induced leucine zipper (GILZ or tsc22d3) positively correlates with RACK1 expression in IBD patients, GILZ knockout mice and cell silencing experiments were performed.

Purpose: Local and distant progression remains common following resection of resectable pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) despite adjuvant multiagent chemotherapy. We report a prospective institutional phase 1 trial incorporating adjuvant GVAX vaccine, low-dose cyclophosphamide (Cy), and stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) followed by FOLFIRINOX (FFX) among patients who underwent resection of high-risk PDAC.
Patients And Methods: The study design was a modified 3+3.
Today, plastic pollution is a widespread problem in all ecosystems and has a particularly severe impact on marine ecosystems and external fertilisers such as the mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis. The present study aims to assess the toxicological reproductive health effects in this organism following exposure to two concentrations of polystyrene microplastics (PS-MPs) (0.5 and 1 μg/L), representative of conditions in the Mediterranean Sea.

Two complementary toxicity tests were conducted to determine the LC50values, growth rate inhibition, morphological alterations, and histopathological texture of worms. The lethality test included four increasing concentrations of AS fertilizer (ranging from 2500 to 7500 mg/kg of dry soil weight (d.

Given that PARP-catalysed ADP-ribosylation is also involved in counteracting heavy metal toxicity and maintaining genomic integrity, and that PARylation is implicated in chromatin remodelling but its role in sperm chromatin remains to be elucidated, we investigated the effects of chromium(VI) at 1, 10 and 100 nM on the reproductive health of Mytilus galloprovincialis. The damage to the gonads was assessed by morphological analyses and the damage indices PARP and ɣH2A.

Among these, it has been recognized as an endocrine disruptor. This work aimed to test the effects and potential endocrine disrupting action of glyphosate on PNT1A human prostate cells, an immortalized non-tumor epithelial cell line, possessing both ERα and ERβ estrogen receptors.

In this work, we develop a low-cost tool for measuring plant height proximally based on an ultrasound sensor for flexible use in static or on-the-go mode. The tool was lab-tested and field-tested on crop systems of different geometry and spacings: in a static setting on faba bean ( L.

The use of essential oil (EO) in treating infected wounds is still challenging. A lot of effort has been made to make such an application more convenient. Recently, microneedles (MNDs) have been considered as a smart dermal delivery system to overcome the poor absorption and distribution, low bioavailability, and skin penetration of some drugs.

Among phthalates, di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP) is a low-molecular-weight phthalate used as a component of many cosmetic products, such as nail polish, and other perfumed personal care products. DBP has toxic effects on reproductive health, inducing testicular damage and developmental malformations.

These substances lead to a general loss of biodiversity, both of flora and fauna and being able to biomagnify and pass through the food chain, they can endanger the survival of terrestrial vertebrates at the top of this chain. This review analyzes the risks associated with exposure to glyphosate, the active principle of many herbicide products, for the reproductive health of the field lizard () potentially exposed to the substance in its natural habitat; therefore, introducing it as a possible model organism.

In vivo and in vitro studies conducted mainly in mammals have shown various disorders of sexual activity and morpho-functional dysfunctions of the gonads in both sexes. Although the modalities are still unclear, cocaine has been shown to alter the cell cycle, induce apoptosis, and alter sperm motility.

The present study applied a methodological framework that combined invasive Species Distribution Models, based on propagule pressure, abiotic and biotic factors for 14 invasive alien plants of Union concern in Italy, with the local interpretable model-agnostic explanation analysis aiming to map, evaluate and analyse the risk of plant invasions across the country, inside and outside the network of protected areas. Using a hierarchical invasive Species Distribution Model, we explored the combined effect of propagule pressure, abiotic and biotic factors on shaping invasive alien plant occurrence across three biogeographic regions (Alpine, Continental, and Mediterranean) and realms (terrestrial and aquatic) in Italy.

Treatment strategies are currently based on symptomatic control by immunosuppression. The glucocorticoid-induced leucine zipper (GILZ), a mediator of several effects of glucocorticoids, was recently found to be secreted by goblet cells and play a role in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

This process is extensively studied in several experimental models, particularly in vertebrates that share the morphological structure and functionality of the mammalian testis. Although reptiles are not generally considered biological models, the lizard has represented a suitable organism for the study of spermatogenesis over the years.

Here we describe all the steps necessary to process the adrenochromaffin tissue for the transmission electron microscopy; this protocol is suitable for any kind of adrenal tissue, and personally we used it in mammals, reptiles, and amphibians.
