Objective: To determine the normal values of serum IGF-1 (Immulite 2000) in a Brazilian adult (21-70 years) population.
Subjects And Methods: Healthy volunteers were divided into 10 groups according to age (5-year intervals), with 100 subjects (50 men and 50 women) per group. One-hundred participants were selected for repetition of the test after 12 weeks.
Objective: To evaluate the frequency of elevated TSH in pregnant women of low risk for thyroid dysfunction.
Subjects And Methods: TSH was measured in 838 pregnant women during the first trimester of gestation (from 6 to 14 weeks, median 9 weeks) and who were considered to be of low risk for thyroid dysfunction because they did not meet any of the following criteria: known or clinically suspected thyroid disease; history of head and neck radiotherapy; personal history of autoimmune diseases; family history of thyroid disease; history of abortion or prematurity.
Results: The frequency of elevated TSH was 0.
Context: One important aspect in the decision to treat or not elderly patients with subclinical hyperthyroidism (SCH) is the risk of progression to overt hyperthyroidism (OH).
Objective: To define the natural history of endogenous SCH in elderly patients with TSH between 0.1 and 0.
In this article, some of most relevant programs of self-regulation of academic learning in the sphere of higher education were reviewed. Although there are quite a few of them, we reviewed only the interventions whose contents had been implemented in e-learning modalities or had been supported by the new information and communication technologies. For this task, we arranged the programs along a continuum that ranged from those that deal with the development of self-regulatory competences by indirect training of such competences to the programs whose impact on such competences is much more direct.

Subjects And Methods: The sample consisted of 102 patients with thyroid nodules, submitted to FNAC and presenting an indeterminate cytological diagnosis (follicular neoplasm).
Results: Malignancy was observed in 19/25 (76%) nodules with suspicious ultrasonographic characteristics versus 5/77 (6.

Objective: To report the results of repeat fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) in thyroid nodules with an initial benign cytological diagnosis that grow during follow-up and/or present suspicious ultrasonographic characteristics.
Subjects And Methods: The sample consisted of 456 patients with 895 nodules. FNAC was repeated after 12 to 18 months in the case of nodules with suspicious ultrasonographic characteristics, irrespective of growth, and when the nodules showed significant growth.

Objective: To report the results of cytology and histology obtained for a series of systematically resected thyroid nodules >or= 4 cm.
Methods: A group of 151 patients with thyroid nodules >or= 4 cm was submitted to surgery despite the cytology result.
Results: Malignancy was confirmed histologically in 22.
Objective: The levothyroxine withdrawal (L-T4) for some weeks results in prolonged exposure to elevated TSH. In contrast, administration of recombinant human TSH (rhTSH) promotes a short period of hyperthyrotropinemia. The objective of this study was to compare the area under the curve (AUC) of TSH obtained after L-T4 withdrawal versus administration of rhTSH.

In order to understand the extent to which thinking styles predict academic achievement, 1466 students, between 12 and 16 years old, from first to fourth grades of Compulsory Secondary Education (Spanish ESO) took part in the research. A parsimonious model of covariances was assumed in each of the four samples corresponding to the four different grades of Secondary School as well as in the total sample.

At this study, plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) and D-dimer were evaluated in 12 women without diabetes and 64 type 2 diabetic women. All patients were classified into 3 different categories according to the carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) assessed by Doppler: 25 with <1 mm (normal), 15 with >1 mm and without plaque (intermediate), and 24 with stenosis lower than 50% of the vessel lumen (plaque).

The purpose was to determine to what extent high, moderate, or low levels of academic goals were positively or negatively related to effort regulation, the value assigned to academic tasks, meta-cognitive self-regulation, self-efficacy, beliefs about learning control, and management of time and study environment. The investigation was carried out with a sample of 632 university students (70% female and 30% male) and mean age of 21.

The evaluation of growth hormone (GH) secretion continues to be important in acromegaly and the nadir GH (n-GH) level in the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) is the gold standard for the demonstration of secretory autonomy of this hormone. n-GH levels < 1 microg/L are defined as normal suppression but, using current assays, n-GH < 1 microg/L is detected in patients with untreated acromegaly and this value seems to be much lower in normal subjects. The objective of the present study was to evaluate n-GH levels in the OGTT in normal subjects using three different assays (GH ICMA Immulite; GH IRMA DSL and GH IFMA AutoDelfia).

In contrast, these aspects of the disease are poorly understood in patients with even milder SCH as defined by TSH < or = 10 mIU/L and normal thyroid hormone levels. Therefore, we sought to evaluate the natural history of this milder form of SCH (TSH < or =10 mIU/L with normal thyroid hormone levels) in adult women patients.

This work intends to look into this relation from a new perspective, which consists in classifying the students as more or less self-regulated depending on diverse indicators and using cluster analysis. The aim of this work was to identify the possible self-regulated learning profiles in a sample of university students.

Only a few studies have analyzed the relations between test anxiety, academic procrastination, personal and family variables and math grades. This work focus on the analysis of the impact of students' social-personal variables such as parents' education level, number of siblings and under-achievement by performing ANOVAs in two samples of 533 and 796 students from junior high-school.
