Late-onset capsular bag distension syndrome 33 years after cataract surgery.

Purpose: Describe the clinical features and management of this uncommon case of late-onset Capsular bag distension syndrome that occurred 33 years after cataract surgery.

Observation: An 87-year-old male was referred to our clinic complaining of blurred and gradual, painless reduction in vision in his left eye over the past year. A complete ophthalmological examination, Ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM), anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT), and optical biometry were performed to confirm the diagnosis.

Hyper-reflective vitreous spots in central retinal artery occlusion: An unusual finding in two cases.

Purpose: To present two consecutive cases of Central Retinal Artery Occlusion (CRAO) with unusual Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) presentation of Hyperreflective Spots (HRS) in the posterior vitreous.

Case Report: The first patient was a 59 years-old male who developed CRAO in the post-operative period after aortic valve replacement. OCT scans revealed the presence of many HRS in the posterior vitreous, remarkably decreased in number at two months follow-up.

Genetic evaluation in phenotypically discordant monozygotic twins with Coats Disease.

Purpose: To report the unique case of a pair of phenotypically discordant monozygotic twins, with one of them affected by unilateral Coats disease.

Case Report: Both patients underwent a complete ophthalmologic evaluation and were genetically tested with whole-exome sequencing (WES). Any known or unknown potential genetic determinant of Coats disease wasn't found.

Preparing the ocular surface for glaucoma filtration surgery: an unmet clinical need.

The mutual relationship among medical therapy, ocular surface (OS) and filtration surgery (FS) represents one of the most crucial issues in glaucoma management. As the long-term use of intraocular pressure-lowering medications significantly affect the OS health, patients with an uncontrolled disease frequently undergo glaucoma surgery in less-than-ideal conditions. As we known, OS changes strongly affect the post-operative bleb filtration capability.

Prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 amongst ophthalmologists throughout the first and second waves of the pandemic.

The study aims to investigate the prevalence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection among ophthalmology unit staff throughout the first and second waves of the outbreak, in order to verify the effectiveness of the measures adopted in containing the contagion.A retrospective observational study was conducted involving staff members, who received a naso/oropharyngeal swab when complaining of SARS-CoV-2 symptoms and once a month as a screening measure. They were tested for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies as a screening measure during the first and the second wave.

Intraocular pressure control after combined phacotrabeculectomy versus trabeculectomy alone.

Purpose: We compared the efficacy and safety of trabeculectomy and phacotrabeculectomy in patients with glaucoma.

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively analyzed consecutive patients who underwent trabeculectomy or phacotrabeculectomy. Patients in the trabeculectomy group were pseudophakic.

Medical management of pediatric glaucoma: lessons learned from randomized clinical trials.

Purpose: To critically discuss the randomized clinical trials (RCTs) on glaucoma medical therapy for the management of pediatric glaucoma.

Methods: RCTs on glaucoma drugs carried out on pediatric subjects with ocular hypertension and glaucoma were identified through systematic searches. The methods of the RCTs and the safety and the efficacy of the glaucoma drugs were reviewed and discussed.
