Skin injuries in newborns hospitalized in neonatal intensive care: a cross-sectional study.

Objective: To analyze the skin injuries of hospitalized newborns and identify factors related to the number of lesions.

Method: This was a cross-sectional epidemiological study carried out over a period of one year in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in the west of Paraná. The study included 74 newborns with a score ≥5 on the Newborn Skin Condition Scale.

Mental health of parents of children and adolescents who require special health care.

Objective: To identify the manifestations presented by parents of children and adolescents who require special health attention that can impact their mental health.

Methods: exploratory, qualitative research, based on the concept of vulnerability, with data collection carried out through interviews with 18 parents of children and adolescents with special health care needs, hospitalized in the pediatric ward of a hospital in Paraná, between May/2017 and May/ 2018. Data analyzed by inductive thematic analysis.

Cross-cultural nursing care for immigrant women during pregnancy and childbirth: experiences and vulnerabilities.

Objective: To understand the experiences and vulnerabilities for cross-cultural nursing care for immigrant women during pregnancy and delivery.

Method: Exploratory, qualitative research, in the light of the Theory of Diversity and Universality of Cultural Care, in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, through interviews with eight postpartum woman and 18 nurses, between February and September 2022. The interpretation of meanings was adopted for analysis.

This study aimed to investigate the green sea turtle as a reservoir of resistant bacteria, mainly because is the most frequent sea turtle species in Brazilian coastal regions and, consequently, under the intense impact of anthropic factors.

Objectives: to develop the first version of an assessment guide for the quality of follow-up of preterm infants in Primary Health Care.

Methods: a descriptive methodological study, which developed a guide to assess follow-up quality of preterm infants in Primary Care. Steps of conceptual establishment, construction of items and answers, organization of domains and structuring of the guide were carried out.

Participation of ecto-5'-nucleotidase in the inflammatory response in an adult zebrafish (Danio rerio) model.

The ecto-5'-nucleotidase is an important source of adenosine in the extracellular medium. Adenosine modulation appears early in evolution and performs several biological functions, including a role as an anti-inflammatory molecule. Here, we evaluate the activity and mRNA expression of ecto-5'-nucleotidase in response to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) using zebrafish as a model.

Therapeutic itinerary of children with special health care needs: analysis guided by care systems.

Objective: To understand the therapeutic itinerary taken by families in search of attention to their child's special health care needs in a Brazilian border town.

Method: Qualitative research based on dialectical hermeneutics and on the Health Care Systems model. Interviews and Talking Maps (Dynamics of Creativity and Sensitivity) were carried out with 19 caregivers of children with special health care needs, attended at care institutions in Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná, in 2020.

Safe care for premature babies at home: Parenting and stimulating development.

Parental daily care and adequate stimuli are extremely important for development and safety of premature babies at home. This study aimed to analyze safe home care for babies born under 32 weeks from parents' perspectives, with a view to a longitudinal promotion of baby development. A qualitative study, based on philosophical hermeneutic approach proposed by Hans-Georg Gadamer, in which dialogue as a principle provides understanding and fusion of experiences and knowledge.

Genetic diversity of the melanocortin-1 receptor in an admixed population of Rio de Janeiro: Structural and functional impacts of Cys35Tyr variant.

The melanocortin-1 receptor (MC1R) is one of the key proteins involved in the regulation of melanin production and several polymorphisms have been associated with different phenotypes of skin and hair color in human and nonhuman species. Most of the knowledge is centered on more homogeneous populations and studies involving an admixed group of people should be encouraged due to the great importance of understanding the human color variation. This work evaluates the MC1R diversity and the possible impacts of MC1R variants in an admixed sample population of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which is a product of Native American, African, and European miscegenation.

Frequency distribution of HCV resistance-associated variants in infected patients treated with direct-acting antivirals.

Background: Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a global public health problem. Second-generation direct-acting antivirals targeting non-structural regions on the viral genome are the cornerstone for treatment of chronic infection. However, resistance-associated variants (RAVs) have been reported to be associated with therapeutic failure.

Therapeutic itinerary of breast cancer women in a border municipality.

Objectives: to know the therapeutic itinerary and to show the implications of breast cancer for women in a border town in southern Brazil.

Methods: a qualitative research conducted based on the complexity paradigm, through interviews with 13 women with breast cancer undergoing outpatient treatment and data analyzed by thematic analysis.

Results: the first signs and symptoms of breast cancer were noticed unexpectedly, in everyday moments and during routine visits.

Factors related to duration of hospitalization and death in premature newborns.

Objective: To analyze factors related to prolonged hospitalization and death in premature newborns in a border region.

Method: Cross-sectional study, with retrospective data collection, which analyzed 951 medical records of premature newborns hospitalized between 2013 and 2017. The independent variables were maternal age, nationality, prenatal appointments, maternal intercurrences, gestational age, weight at birth, Apgar, complications; the dependent variables were days of hospitalization, discharge, death, and transference.

Background: The consequences of mild to severe exposure to alcohol during brain development is still a matter of debate and scientific investigation. The long-term behavioural effects of ethanol exposure have been related to impaired social skills and cognition. Zebrafish have become a suitable animal model to investigate the effects of early ethanol exposure because it is very feasible to promote drug delivery during early development.
