This continuing education analyzes recent advances in Nuclear Medicine focused on the development of new radiopharmaceuticals that improve both the diagnosis and treatment of complex diseases. The focus is on teragnosis, which combines diagnosis and treatment by means of pairs of radiopharmaceuticals directed to the same molecular target, which allows the personalization of treatments. This first part specifically reviews the teragnostic pairs copper-64/copper-67, lead-212/lead-203 and scandium-44/scandium-47, highlighting their physical characteristics, methods of production and potential clinical applications.

Purpose: To determine whether intra-articular injections of peripheral blood stem cells (PBSC) with hyaluronan (HA)-based scaffold improve articular cartilage regeneration in chondral injuries caused by mixed-femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS) over a period longer than 24 months post-hip arthroscopy.

Methods: In this prospective cohort study, patients with mixed-FAIS and chondral injury ≥ IIIB according to the International Cartilage Regeneration and Joint Preservation Society grade or III/IV of Konan/Haddad classification underwent intra-articular injection of PBSC with an HA-based scaffold and micro-drillings during hip arthroscopy. The degree of chondral repair was measured at baseline and 5 years using the International Cartilage Repair Society morphologic score system (MSS) as the primary outcome.

Purpose: A growing body of research suggests that the brain is implicated in cognitive impairment, fatigue, neuropathy, pain, nausea, sleep disturbances, distress, and other prevalent and burdensome symptoms of cancer and its treatments. Despite anecdotal evidence of difficulties using gold-standard magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to study the brain, no studies have systematically reported reasons that patients with cancer do or do not complete research MRI scans, making it difficult to understand the role of the brain related to these symptoms. A 76-year-old man undergoing hormone therapy for prostate cancer was referred for 68 Ga-PSMA-11-PET (PSMA PET) due to persistently detectable PSA level. No PSMA-positive tumor lesions were detected, so a delayed phase imaging was performed, which revealed focal PSMA uptake in the right seminal vesicle together with contrast accumulation on excretory phase contrast-enhanced CT. These findings were finally determined to be secondary to urinary reflux as a consequence of a prostatic enucleation he had undergone 5 months earlier following an episode of acute urinary retention.
