This study aimed to assess the impact of nutritional conditions and irradiation parameters on the viability and proliferation of murine preosteoblasts. MC3T3-E1 cells were maintained under standard culture conditions (αMEM supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum) or nutritional deficit conditions (αMEM without serum) and irradiated or not (control) with an InGaAlP diode laser at wavelengths of 660 nm (red) or 790 nm (infrared), with doses of 1, 4, or 6 J/cm², in a single dose in continuous mode. Cell viability and proliferation were assessed 24, 48, and 72 h after irradiation using the Alamar blue reduction assay.

This dismal prognosis has promoted strategies to develop more effective treatments. Nanoparticle-based strategies have emerged, in the last decades, as a great opportunity because they can enhance drug delivery and promote controlled release, presenting lower side effects than conventional therapeutic regimens.

Extensive literature describing the adverse effects of untreated post-surgical pain emphasises the necessity of a comprehensive pain management protocol, incorporating both pharmacological and non-pharmacological strategies to ensure successful patient outcomes. The present study aimed to determine whether a positive dog-owner interaction influences post-operative pain perception and stress (POPPS), as well as behavioural inactive rate variability in bitches that underwent elective surgery.

A possible association between the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the virus responsible for COVID-19, and the incidence of T1D is being determined. This study was carried out using Portuguese registries, aiming at examining temporal trends between COVID-19 and T1D.

We aimed to determine the association between medication use and sleep quality in shift workers versus daytime workers. We conducted a quantitative cross-sectional study with a convenience sample of active workers.

Its composition and structure were studied by analytical pyrolysis (Py-GC/MS), nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR), Derivatization Followed by Reductive Cleavage (DFRC) method, and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The data revealed an enrichment of guaiacyl (G) units (H:G:S of 3:61:36), which had a significant impact on the distribution of inter-unit linkages.

Despite its rarity, the case underscores the importance of recognizing unusual manifestations of COVID-19, emphasizing the need for healthcare providers to consider COVID-19-induced immunosuppression in differential diagnoses. Swift diagnosis, surgical intervention, and appropriate antibiotics led to a favorable outcome, highlighting the significance of a multidisciplinary approach.

Yet we still know little about how social adversity impacts the immune system and how it might promote age-related diseases. Here, we investigated how immune cell diversity varied with age, sex and social adversity (operationalized as low social status) in free-ranging rhesus macaques.

Overall, the analyses revealed that oat straw lignins were enriched in guaiacyl (G; 50-56 %) and syringyl (S; 39-44 %) units, with relatively lower amounts of p-hydroxyphenyl (H; 4-6 %) units.

Therefore, this systematic review aims to identify putative molecules that can be used in diagnosis in daily clinical practice (PROSPERO ID: CRD42021272610).

The concept of co-amorphous systems is introduced in an integrated laboratory experiment, designed for advanced chemistry students, using solvent-free, environmentally friendly mechanochemistry. The dual-drug naproxen-cimetidine co-amorphous system (NPX-CIM) is investigated as an example of the emergent field of medicinal mechanochemistry. Students are trained in solid-state characterization techniques including X-ray powder diffraction, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, and thermal analysis by differential scanning calorimetry.

Radiotherapy exerts its effects not only by damaging DNA and inducing tumor cell death, but also stimulating anti-tumor immune responses. PARPis are known to exert their therapeutic effects by inhibiting DNA repair, and they may be used in combination with radiotherapy.

The photochemistry of matrix-isolated 1-benzimidazole was induced by excitations with a frequency-tunable narrowband UV light and followed spectroscopically. Hitherto unobserved photoproducts were identified as 4- and 6-tautomers.

In this work, the content and chemical composition of the lipids present in papyrus stems were thoroughly studied.

Hence, in the present work, the chemical composition of the lipophilic compounds present in rice straw was thoroughly characterized by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry using medium-length high-temperature capillary columns, which allowed the identification of a wide range of lipophilic compounds, from low molecular weight fatty acids to high molecular weight sterols esters, sterol glucosides, or triglycerides in the same chromatogram.

We present a clinical case of cerebellar hemangioblastoma with six years of evolution, which illustrates the diagnostic difficulties that often arise, especially when the clinical and imaging characteristics escape those usually described and when other clinical findings appear as confounding factors.
