The use of imaging systems in protein crystallisation means that the experimental setups no longer require manual inspection to determine the outcome of the trials. However, it leads to the problem of how best to find images which contain useful information about the crystallisation experiments. The adoption of a deeplearning approach in 2018 enabled a four-class machine classification system of the images to exceed human accuracy for the first time.

Nicotinamide (vitamin B) enhances the repair of ultraviolet (UV) radiation-induced DNA damage, reduces the cutaneous immunosuppressive effects of UV radiation, and reduces the incidence of keratinocyte cancers (including squamous-cell and basal-cell carcinomas) and actinic keratoses among high-risk immunocompetent patients. Whether oral nicotinamide is useful for skin-cancer chemoprevention in organ-transplant recipients is unclear.

This study aims to determine the spectrum of skin diseases encountered in Australian heart and lung transplant recipients, their effect on quality of life, and potential risk factors for skin cancer.
Methods: Ninety-four participants were recruited from an Australian heart and lung transplant centre between March and December 2016.
Over 80% of CTSA programs have a community advisory board (CAB). Little is known about how research discussed with CABs aligns with community priorities (bidirectionality). This program evaluation assessed researcher presentations from 2014 to 2018 to the CABs linked to our CTSA at all three sites (Minnesota, Arizona, and Florida) for relevance to local community needs identified in 2013 and/or 2016.

Objective: To determine the frequency of and risk factors for NMSC in a cohort of Australian heart and lung transplant recipients.
Design, Setting, And Participants: A retrospective cohort study was conducted at an Australian tertiary center where heart and lung transplants are performed between March 21 and December 14, 2016.
The process of producing suitable crystals for X-ray diffraction analysis most often involves the setting up of hundreds (or thousands) of individual crystallization trials, each of which must be repeatedly examined for crystals or hints of crystallinity. Currently, the only real way to address this bottleneck is to use an automated imager to capture images of the trials. However, the images still need to be assessed for crystals or other outcomes.

A previously well 20-year-old man with a history of nasal inhalation of "speed" was retrieved on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation for respiratory failure. Anti-glomerular basement membrane (anti-GBM) antibody was positive in the absence of renal disease. We postulate a hitherto unreported causal link between snorting "speed" and lung disease associated with anti-GBM antibody formation.

There is strong evidence to suggest that a protein sample needs to be well folded and uniform in order to form protein crystals, and it is accepted knowledge that the formulation can have profound effects on the behaviour of the protein sample. The technique of differential scanning fluorimetry (DSF) is a very accessible method to determine protein stability as a function of the formulation chemistry and the temperature. A diverse set of 252 soluble protein samples was subjected to a standard formulation-screening protocol using DSF.

An application that translates raw thermal melt curve data into more easily assimilated knowledge is described. This program, called "Meltdown," conducts four main activities--control checks, curve normalization, outlier rejection, and melt temperature (T(m)) estimation--and performs optimally in the presence of triplicate (or higher) sample data.

The patient then developed sclerodermoid changes of the hands, as well as woody induration, oedema and hyperpigmentation of lower limbs. There was no previous exposure to gadolinium contrast.

Many of these chloroquine analogues have submicromolar antimalarial activity versus HB3 (chloroquine sensitive) and Dd2 (chloroquine resistant strain of Plasmodium falciparum) and low resistance indices were obtained in most cases. Importantly, compounds 11-15 and 24 proved to be more potent against Dd2 than chloroquine.
