Recommendations on the use of restrictions and assistive devices after total hip arthroplasty: an adolopment of guidelines.

Purpose: Movement restrictions and assistive devices have traditionally been recommended to prevent hip dislocation after total hip arthroplasty (THA). Considering the advancements in THA surgery, a review of treatment recommendations is worthwhile. The aim of this study was to investigate whether unrestricted protocol (without movement restrictions and assistive devices) should be recommended for THA patients.

Acyclovir eco-geno-toxicity in freshwater organisms.

This study explores the eco-geno-toxic impact of Acyclovir (ACV), a widely used antiviral drug, on various freshwater organisms, given its increasing detection in surface waters. The research focused on non-target organisms, including the green alga Raphidocelis subcapitata, the rotifer Brachionus calyciflorus, the cladoceran crustacean Ceriodaphnia dubia, and the benthic ostracod Heterocypris incongruens, exposed to ACV to assess both acute and chronic toxicity. The results indicate that while acute toxicity occurs at environmentally not-relevant concentrations, a significant chronic toxicity for C.

Vitamin B12 Deficiency and the Nervous System: Beyond Metabolic Decompensation-Comparing Biological Models and Gaining New Insights into Molecular and Cellular Mechanisms.

Vitamin B12 (VitB12) is a micronutrient and acts as a cofactor for fundamental biochemical reactions: the synthesis of succinyl-CoA from methylmalonyl-CoA and biotin, and the synthesis of methionine from folic acid and homocysteine. VitB12 deficiency can determine a wide range of diseases, including nervous system impairments. Although clinical evidence shows a direct role of VitB12 in neuronal homeostasis, the molecular mechanisms are yet to be characterized in depth.

Self-reported olfactory and gustatory dysfunctions in COVID-19 patients: a 1-year follow-up study in Foggia district, Italy.

Background: From the initial stages of the pandemic in early 2020, COVID-19-related olfactory and gustatory dysfunctions have been widely reported and are emerging as one of the most frequent long-term sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection. However, data regarding the long-term recovery of the sense of smell and taste are lacking. This study aimed to characterize the evolution up to one year after the diagnosis of self-reported olfactory and gustatory dysfunctions in COVID-19 cases.

Combined Measurement of the Higgs Boson Mass in pp Collisions at sqrt[s]=7 and 8 TeV with the ATLAS and CMS Experiments.

A measurement of the Higgs boson mass is presented based on the combined data samples of the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the CERN LHC in the H→γγ and H→ZZ→4ℓ decay channels. The results are obtained from a simultaneous fit to the reconstructed invariant mass peaks in the two channels and for the two experiments. The measured masses from the individual channels and the two experiments are found to be consistent among themselves.

Preliminary study on the correlation between grading and histology of solitary pulmonary nodules and contrast enhancement and [18F]fluorodeoxyglucose standardised uptake value after evaluation by dynamic multiphase CT and PET/CT.

Aim: To evaluate whether the histology and grading of solitary pulmonary nodules (SPNs) correlated with the results of dynamic multiphase multidetector CT (MDCT) and the [(18)F]fluorodeoxyglucose standardised uptake value (SUV) in 30 patients.

Methods: Chest x-rays of 270 patients with incidentally detected SPNs were retrospectively evaluated. Thirty patients with histologically proven SPNs were enrolled.

Isolated bone lesion secondary to hyperparathyroidism: diagnostic considerations.

Authors describe two cases of bone lesions ("brown" tumour) secondary to hyperparathyroidism in whom incisional biopsy gave an incorrect diagnosis. The first case was a patient with a lesion of the right femur diagnosed as aneurismal cyst and; the second case was a patient with an isolated lesion of the distal metaphysic of right humerus firstly diagnosed as giant cells tumour. Treatment of the first case was resection and diaphyseal spacer, and the correct diagnosis of brown tumour was performed for the multiple tibial localizations appeared six months later.

Warthin tumor of the lacrimal gland.

Purpose: To describe a case of Warthin tumor involving the lacrimal gland.

Methods: Case report. The patient underwent a lateral orbitotomy to remove a nodular lesion involving the lacrimal gland.
