Nursing students have difficulties interacting with cognitively impaired elders. This study aimed to identify students' difficulties in interacting with elders, the causes of the difficulties in interacting with elders, the strategies used to reduce these difficulties, and the importance attributed to the Structured Sequence of Humanitude Care Procedures (SSHCP). It also aimed to assess the contribution of the Humanitude Care Methodology (HCM) to the development of interaction skills in nursing students.

Considering the importance of assessing nurses' helping relationship skills, it was necessary to use reliable and context-adapted instruments. Thus, the objective of this study was to assess the psychometric properties of the Helping Relationship Skills Inventory (Inventário de Competências Relacionais de Ajuda, ICRA), by conducting reliability and validity studies to increase the level of confidence or accuracy of the data obtained using this instrument. This quantitative study was conducted on a sample of 690 nurses who worked in six hospitals and eight health centres in Portugal.

The healing relationship emerges lately as a source of nursing care more valued by the sick people, but, given its subjectivity, has been somewhat misunderstood in both its fundamental principles, as in the identification of its importance. Thus, for better understanding of the concepts that underlie the healing relationship, we want with this article to reflect on the concept of healing relationship in nursing care, the emergence of the healing relationships in the context of nursing and its legal and ethical framework in the profession as a therapeutic element.
