Background: Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) when used as preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in pregnancy is considered safe overall however there is insufficient evidence of its effect on maternal bone. We compared bone mineral density (BMD) and content (BMC) at the lumbar spine (LS) and hip of African breastfeeding women exposed and not exposed to TDF-containing PrEP in a randomized control trial (RCT).
Methods: This is a secondary data analysis of an RCT where pregnant women were randomized to initiating PrEP in pregnancy or delayed initiation of PrEP until breastfeeding cessation.
Background: Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) have been shown to facilitate HIV transmission and acquisition. HPTN 083, a global clinical trial, demonstrated superiority of long-acting cabotegravir (CAB-LA) versus daily oral tenofovir disoproxil fumarate/emtricitabine (TDF/FTC) for HIV prevention among transgender women and cisgender men who have sex with men. This analysis assessed whether CAB-LA maintained protective efficacy when bacterial STIs (syphilis, rectal/urethral gonorrhea and chlamydia) were present.

While conventional toxicology tests rely on measuring apical changes in vertebrate models, there is increasing interest in the use of molecular information from animal and in vitro studies to inform safety assessment. One promising and pragmatic application of molecular information involves the derivation of transcriptomic points of departure (tPODs).

Unlabelled: HPTN 084 demonstrated the superiority of long-acting injectable cabotegravir (CAB-LA) compared with daily oral tenofovir disoproxil fumarate-emtricitabine (F/TDF) for HIV prevention in women. CAB-LA (600 mg) or placebo injections were administered 4 weeks after an initial dose (loading dose) and every 2 months (Q2M) thereafter; this is the approved regimen. Participants experienced both loading dose and Q2M delays during the trial.

Case reports and in vitro data support the potential activity of cidofovir against BK polyomavirus (BKPyV).
Methods: We report the results of a phase I/II, double-blind, placebo-controlled randomized dose-escalation trial of cidofovir in KTRs with biopsy-confirmed BKPyVAN and estimated glomerular filtration rate ≥30 mL/min.
Objective: We evaluated growth metrics in HIV unexposed African breastfed infants in the first 18 months of life in association with exposure to Tenofovir Diphosphate Fumarate (TDF) containing pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).
Design: We conducted a secondary data analysis of a TDF-PrEP randomized control trial (CAP016 RCT). Pregnant women without HIV were randomized to initiating TDF-PrEP in pregnancy (Immediate-PrEP-IP) or deferred initiation of TDF-PrEP at cessation of breastfeeding (Deferred-PrEP-DP).
Objectives: Tuberculosis (TB) risk after initiation of antiretroviral treatment (ART) is not well described in a European setting, with an average TB incidence of 25/10 in the background population.
Methods: We included all adult persons with HIV starting ART in the RESPOND cohort between 2012 and 2020. TB incidence rates (IR) were assessed for consecutive time intervals post-ART initiation.
Unlabelled: Detection of HIV infection may be challenging in persons using long-acting cabotegravir (CAB-LA) pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) due to viral suppression and reduced/delayed antibody production. We evaluated two point-of-care tests for detecting HIV infection in persons who received CAB-LA in the HPTN 083 trial. Samples were obtained from 12 participants who received CAB-LA and had delayed detection of HIV infection using HIV rapid tests and an antigen/antibody test (52 plasma samples; 18 dried blood spot [DBS] samples).

Physical activity, including structured exercise, is associated with favorable health-related chronic disease outcomes. Although there is evidence of various molecular pathways that affect these responses, a comprehensive molecular map of these molecular responses to exercise has not been developed. The Molecular Transducers of Physical Activity Consortium (MoTrPAC) is a multicenter study designed to isolate the effects of structured exercise training on the molecular mechanisms underlying the health benefits of exercise and physical activity.

Nevertheless, the direct and indirect mechanisms governing these interactions are, thus far, largely unknown. In this proof-of-concept study, we demonstrate that the excretory-secretory products (ESPs) and extracellular vesicles (EVs) of key GI nematodes contain peptides that, when recombinantly expressed, exert antimicrobial activity in vitro against .

Collagen type VI is a heterotrimeric, microfibrillar component of the muscle extracellular matrix (ECM), predominantly secreted by resident fibroadipogenic precursor cells in skeletal muscle. The absence or mislocalizatoion of collagen VI in the ECM underlies the non-cell autonomous dysfunction and dystrophic changes in skeletal muscle with an as of yet elusive direct mechanistic link between the ECM and myofiber dysfunction.
