Infections due to carbapenem-resistant Gram-negative bacteria (CR-GNB) are associated with considerable morbidity and mortality. Polymyxin B (PMB) is a first-line agent for CR-GNB-associated pneumonia, but limited data exist on the clinical use of inhaled (IH) PMB. A single-center, prospective randomized controlled trial was conducted in China to compare IH PMB alone with IH plus intravenous (IV) PMB between February 2022 and February 2024.

Purpose: This study aimed to describe the population pharmacokinetics (PopPK) of ceftazidime-avibactam (CAZ-AVI) in adult patients, and to develop optimal dosing regimens for both non-critically ill and critically ill patients by combining different pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) targets.

Patients And Methods: A prospective, single-center study involving patients who were infected with CRKP and received CAZ-AVI therapy was conducted. Nonlinear mixed-effect modeling was used to develop a PopPK model.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common malignant tumor with high morbidity and mortality. Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) is the most widely used diagnostic serum biomarker, but it still has limited accuracy in detecting HCC, suggesting the necessity of seeking more ideal biomarkers with high sensitivity and specificity. Soluble growth stimulation gene 2 (sST2) form of growth stimulating expression gene 2 (ST2), is expressed in various organs and can bind competitively to interleukin 33 (IL-33).

Article Synopsis
  • Sirolimus (SRL) is vital for preventing organ rejection in transplant patients, and regular therapeutic drug monitoring is recommended to ensure its effectiveness and safety.
  • The study compares the accuracy of SRL concentration measurements between the updated EMIT-based Viva-E® System (SVPS) and the established liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method, finding that SVPS values were significantly higher.
  • The research highlights the need to clearly indicate the measurement methods in therapeutic drug monitoring reports and provides conversion formulas for clinical centers to ensure consistency in SRL monitoring.

Salient objects often capture our attention, serving as distractors and hindering our current goals. It remains unclear when and how salient distractors interact with our goals, and our knowledge on the neural mechanisms responsible for attentional capture is limited to a few brain regions recorded from non-human primates. Here we conducted a multivariate analysis on human intracranial signals covering most brain regions and successfully dissociated distractor-specific representations from target-arousal signals in the high-frequency (60-100 Hz) activity.

Single herbs and Chinese patent medicine preparations often have bad taste, such as bitterness and astringency, which is one of the key factors affecting patients' medication compliance, and would affect the therapeutic effect and restrict the extensive application in clinical practice. Therefore, how to make use of taste masking techniques to improve the bad taste of traditional Chinese medicines has become an important project. Through the collection and summarization of Chinese and foreign journals and papers in recent years, this paper discussed the generation mechanism of bitter taste, the new methods of masking bitter taste and the evaluation me-thods of bitter taste, in order to provide references for the taste masking of Chinese patent medicines preparations.

People are sensitive to regularities in the environment. Recent studies employing the additional singleton paradigm showed that a singleton distractor that appeared more often in one specific location than in all other locations may lead to attentional suppression of high-probability distractor locations. This in turn effectively reduced the attentional capture effect by the salient distractor singleton.
