Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effectiveness of chloropicrin (CP) at different concentrations in improving soil conditions for the continuous cropping of Panax notoginseng, a medicinal plant.
  • Results show that CP positively impacted soil nutrient levels, particularly nitrogen and phosphorus, but had no significant effect on potassium.
  • The optimal concentration of CP (40 kg/Mu) significantly promoted the growth of P. notoginseng, increasing seedling survival rates and enhancing the accumulation of its beneficial compounds compared to other concentrations.

Soil fumigation with chloropicrin (CP) is an effective means of overcoming continuous cropping obstacles (CCO) in Panax notoginseng and improving its yield and quality. CP fumigation can change the microbial community of soil. Therefore, a key step after CP fumigation is the rapid restoration of soil microorganisms and the promotion of beneficial microorganism proliferation as the dominant flora.

The high background value of cadmium (Cd) in the planting soil is the main reason for the Cd content in exceeding the limit standards. The main goal of this study was to reveal the mechanism by which potassium (K) reduces Cd accumulation in from the perspective of the influences of soil microbial communities on soil pH, total organic matter (TOM) and cation exchange capacity (CEC). Pot experiments were conducted to study the effects of different types and amounts of applied K on the Cd content in , and on the soil pH, TOM, CEC, and bioavailable Cd (bio-Cd) content in soil.
