Background: Sepsis is a life-threatening condition characterized by an aberrant host response to infection, resulting in multi-organ dysfunction. The application of currently available prognostic indicators for sepsis in primary hospitals is challenging. In this retrospective study, we established a novel index, the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (NLMR), based on routine blood examination upon admission, and assessed its prognostic value for early mortality risk in adult patients with septic shock.

This study aimed to investigate the effects of the C5a receptor antagonist W54011 on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced AKI, focusing on the colon's C5a/C5a receptor pathway, intestinal barrier integrity, and gut microbiota. Our findings demonstrate that W54011 effectively ameliorated kidney injury in the LPS-induced AKI model by selectively inhibiting the colon's C5a/C5a receptor signalling pathway.

We clarified the safety and efficacy of Paxlovid in the treatment of elderly patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Methods: Patients aged over 60 years and with mild to moderate COVID-19 were admitted to the Zhongshan Hospital MinHang MeiLong Branch, Fudan University and received either Paxlovid treatment or only conventional therapy, between April 1 and May 31, 2022.
