Objectives: To assess the prognostic value of the preoperative serum ferritin-to-transferrin ratio (FTR) in renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Methods:We retrospectively reviewed data from 226 patients who underwent surgery for non-metastatic RCC at our institution between January 1, 2012, and June 30, 2021. Time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (timeROC) analysis identified the optimal FTR cut-off, dividing patients into high and low FTR groups.

Background: Currently, traditional blood biomarkers such as neuron-specific enolase (NSE), carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), squamous cell carcinoma antigen (SCCA) etc. are mostly elevated in the late stage of tumour, and patients have already lost the chance of tumour eradication when the relevant indexes are found to be elevated. Therefore, there is a need for blood biomarkers with higher sensitivity, better specificity, and better accessibility.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study examined the potential of tertiary lymphoid structures (TLS) as indicators of prognosis in patients with penile squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) by analyzing data from 83 cases.
  • - Researchers reviewed tumor slides to assess TLS density and used survival analysis to evaluate the impact of clinical factors such as BMI, tumor (T), node (N), and metastasis (M) on overall survival.
  • - Results suggest that TLS could serve as a positive prognostic marker, and combining it with other clinical parameters (BMI, T, N, M) leads to improved accuracy in predicting patient outcomes, achieving high predictive values.

Background: The last procedure performed by the surgeon in laparoscopic surgery is to extract the specimen through the smallest incision possible. This experiment aimed to explore the maximum diameter of specimens that can be extracted through auxiliary incisions of different lengths and shapes by in vitro physical experiments.

Materials And Methods: We used the abdominal wall with the muscle layer, fixed on a square wooden frame, to simulate the human abdominal wall.

Breast cancer metastasis to the ureter is rare. Fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (18F-FDG PET)/computed tomography (CT) is widely used to identify primary lesions of metastatic tumours, however, 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging features of ureteral metastasis from breast cancer are rarely reported. Herein, the case of a 46-year-old woman with recurrent left flank pain for 5 months, who was admitted to the Cancer Hospital of Guangxi Medical University and Guangxi Cancer Research Institute, is described.
