Background and Purpose- Microglia/macrophages (Mi/MΦ) can profoundly influence stroke outcomes by acquiring functionally dominant phenotypes (proinflammatory or anti-inflammatory; deleterious or salutary). Identification of the molecular mechanisms that dictate the functional status of Mi/MΦ after brain ischemia/reperfusion may reveal novel therapeutic targets for stroke. We hypothesized that activation of TAK1 (transforming growth factor beta-activated kinase 1), a key MAP3K upstream of multiple inflammation-regulating pathways, drives Mi/MΦ toward a proinflammatory phenotype and potentiates ischemia/reperfusion brain injury.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the CPGT on the improvement of PONV and prophylaxis administration.
Docetaxel (DTX) is one of the most promising chemotherapeutic agents for a variety of solid tumors. However, the clinical efficacy of the marketed formulation, Taxotere, is limited due to its poor aqueous solubility, side effects caused by the emulsifier, and low selective DTX distribution . Here a facile, well-defined, and easy-to-scale up DTX-loaded -(tert-butoxycarbonyl)--phenylalanine end-capped methoxy-poly(ethylene glycol)--poly(-lactide) (mPEG--PLA-Phe(Boc)) micelles (DTX-PMs) were prepared in an effort to develop a less toxic and more efficacious docetaxel formulation.

It is a clinically and genetically heterogeneous group of limb malformations. This study aimed to identify the pathogenic variant in a consanguineous Pakistani family with autosomal recessive SHFM.

Mercury ion (Hg), a bioaccumulating and toxic heavy metal, can cause severe damages to the environment and human health. Therefore, development of high-performance Hg sensors is highly desirable. Herein, we construct a uniform dodecahedral shaped N-doped carbon decorated by single Fe site enzyme (Fe-N-C SAE), which exhibits good performance for Hg detection.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFamilial acne inversa (AI) is an autoinflammatory disorder that affects hair follicles and is caused by loss-of-function mutations in γ-secretase component genes. We and other researchers showed that nicastrin (NCSTN) is the most frequently mutated gene in familial AI. In this study, we generated a keratin 5-Cre-driven epidermis-specific Ncstn conditional knockout mutant in mice.

In this work, Sr-doped cubic InO/rhombohedral InO homojunction nanowires (NWs) are synthesized by one-step electrospun technology. The Sr doping alters the cubic phase of pure InO into the rhombohedral phase, which is verified by the high-resolution transmittance electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Raman spectroscopy, and is attributable to the low cohesive energy as calculated by the density functional theory (DFT).

In the winter of 2016/2017, a severe haze happened in Xi'an, the main city in the Guanzhong Basin in central China. When the peak daily concentration of fine particulate matter (PM) reaches 499 μg/m, the source of the atmospheric pollution needs to be found urgently in order to take countermeasures.

This paper extends robust principal component analysis (RPCA) to nonlinear manifolds. Suppose that the observed data matrix is the sum of a sparse component and a component drawn from some low dimensional manifold. Is it possible to separate them by using similar ideas as RPCA? Is there any benefit in treating the manifold as a whole as opposed to treating each local region independently? We answer these two questions affirmatively by proposing and analyzing an optimization framework that separates the sparse component from the manifold under noisy data.

TRAPS has hardly been reported in the Chinese population. We aimed to characterize the clinical and genetic features of Chinese adult patients with TRAPS.

Although the mortality rate of breast cancer has fallen over the past 10 years, effective treatments that reduce the occurrence of breast cancer metastasis remain lacking. In this study, we explored the role of receptor for hyaluronan mediated motility (RHAMM) and the associated signaling pathway in cell migration in luminal A breast cancer.

Herein, we identified compound heterozygous mutations in using whole-exome sequencing (WES) in a Chinese family with a recessive inheritance pattern of syndromic intellectual disability. The patients displayed intellectual disability, aggressive and self-injurious behaviors, facial dysmorphic features, microcephaly, and skeletal anomalies.

We investigated stroke-induced transcriptomic changes of monocytes/macrophages by RNA sequencing profiling, using a mouse model of permanent focal cerebral ischemia. Compared to non-ischemic conditions, brain ischemia induced only moderate genomic changes in blood monocytes, but triggered robust genomic reprogramming in monocytes/macrophages invading the brain.

This study examined the transcriptomic changes in monocytes/macrophages after ischemic stroke and the functional implications of these changes, particularly with regards to the contribution of these cells to the phagocytic clearance of dead/dying cells (efferocytosis) in the poststroke brain.
Methods: We performed whole-genome RNA sequencing on the monocyte/macrophage population sorted from mouse brain and peripheral blood 5 days after permanent focal cerebral ischemia.
Purpose: To evaluate the trends and correlation between the antibiotic consumption and susceptibility of eight most frequent isolates in the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University (2007-2016).
Method: This study was based on the yearly surveillance data in a 2500-bed capacity tertiary-care teaching hospital. Trends and correlation were, respectively, analyzed by linear regression and Pearson's correlation coefficient.

Pathogenic mutations in the gene encoding the giant skeletal muscle protein titin (TTN) are associated with several muscle disorders, including cardiomyopathy, recessive congenital myopathies and limb-girdle muscular dystrophy (LGMD) type10. The phenotypic spectrum of titinopathies is expanding, as next generation sequencing (NGS) technology makes screening of this large gene possible.
