Drynariae Rhizoma (DR) has been commonly used as a preventive and therapeutic agent for bone diseases. However, its pharmacological mechanisms have not been fully elucidated. Here, we aimed to investigate the effects of DR in a bilateral ovariectomized (OVX) rat model and explore the correlation with the gut microbiome.

Aims: This study aimed to explore the correlation between homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance(HOMA-IR)and cardiometabolic risk index(CMRI) among different metabolic adults to evaluate the value of HOMA-IR in predicting cardiometabolic risk.

Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted over 18 months (from August 1, 2020 to February 18, 2022) and included 1550 participants divided into non-metabolic syndrome (non-MetS) group (n = 628) and metabolic syndrome (MetS) group (n = 922) in three centers of China. Logistic regression analysis was employed to investigate the correlation between HOMA-IR, body fat percentage, BMI (body mass index), visceral fat index, waist-to-hip ratio, vitamin D, and CMRI.

With the expansion of global energy problems and the deepening of research on oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in alkaline media, the development of low cost and high electrocatalytic performance catalysts has become a research hotspot. In this study, a hexagonal Pd-C-MnOOH composite catalyst was prepared by using the triblock copolymer P123 as the reducing agent and protective agent, sucrose as the carbon source and self-made MnOOH as the carrier under hydrothermal conditions. When the Pd load is 20% and the C/MnOOH ratio is 1 : 1, the 20% Pd-C-MnOOH-1 : 1 catalyst obtained by the one-step method has the highest ORR activity and stability in the alkaline system.

Purpose: The implementation of the universal two-child policy contributes to adverse pregnancy outcomes, but how the policy change leads to adverse pregnancy outcomes is not well elaborated. In this study, we aimed to compare maternal characteristics and complications, accessed the change in the proportion of maternal characteristics and maternal complications, and evaluated the mediation of maternal characteristics on maternal complications.

Methods: Demographic and clinical data of three-level sample facilities were extracted from China's National Maternity Near Miss Obstetrics Surveillance System from Jan 1, 2012 to May 31, 2021.

Despite the diverse roles of tripartite motif (Trim)-containing proteins in the regulation of autophagy, the innate immune response, and cell differentiation, their roles in skeletal diseases are largely unknown. We recently demonstrated that Trim21 plays a crucial role in regulating osteoblast (OB) differentiation in osteosarcoma. However, how Trim21 contributes to skeletal degenerative disorders, including osteoporosis, remains unknown.

To conduct a real-world evaluation of the efficacy and safety of combined Chinese and Western medicine in treating knee osteoarthritis (KOA). A multicenter, prospective cohort study design was employed, enrolling 450 KOA patients (Kellgren-Lawrence score of 3 or less). The patients were divided into a Western medicine treatment group (WM group) and a combined Western and traditional Chinese medicine treatment group (WM-CM group).

Objective: To investigate the effects and mechanisms of zinc finger E-box binding homeobox transcription factor-2 ( 2) on the proliferation, colony formation, migration, and invasion abilities and the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of PANC-1 cells, a human pancreatic cancer cell line.

Methods: Data on the expression of 2 in pancreatic cancer tissues and paracancerous tissues from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database were analyzed. PANC-1 pancreatic cancer cells were divided into si-NC group, si- 2 group, pcDNA3.

This study uses a coupled atmosphere-ocean model with different numerical settings to investigate the mean and eddy momentum transfer processes responsible for Typhoon 's (2011) early rapid intensification (RI). Three experiments are conducted. Two use the coupled model with a horizontal resolution of either 1 km (HRL) or 3 km (LRL).

Large biases and uncertainties remain in real-time predictions of El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) using process-based dynamical models; recent advances in data-driven deep learning algorithms provide a promising mean to achieve superior skill in the tropical Pacific sea surface temperature (SST) modeling. Here, a specific self-attention-based neural network model is developed for ENSO predictions based on the much sought-after Transformer model, named 3D-Geoformer, which is used to predict three-dimensional (3D) upper-ocean temperature anomalies and wind stress anomalies. This purely data-driven and time-space attention-enhanced model achieves surprisingly high correlation skills for Niño 3.

Vitamin A and vitamin D deficiency in children and adolescents has a negative impact on their growth and development. This study aimed to learn the nutritional status of vitamin A and D among rural children and adolescents and to explore related dietary and exercise behaviors. A total of 10 counties (cities, districts) from 90 counties (cities, districts) in Zhejiang Province were selected by the method of random cluster sampling.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted in six provinces of China from July 2010 to July 2011 to estimate the incidence of foodborne gastroenteritis caused by nontyphoidal Salmonella enterica, Shigella, and Vibrio parahaemolyticus.
  • The analysis used a multiplier calculation model, estimating that the burden of Salmonella and Vibrio infections was substantial, with incidences per 100,000 population at 245 for salmonellosis, 67 for shigellosis, and 806 for Vibrio infections.
  • The findings highlight the significant impact of these pathogens on China's healthcare system and underscore the need for ongoing surveillance to improve food safety.

Maternal stress has been associated with poor birth outcomes, including preterm birth, infant mortality, and low birth weight. Bone development disorders in the embryo as a result of maternal stress are believed to be mediated through oxidative stress damage. Various species of free radicals, such as alkoxyl radicals, can be formed through endogenous redox response or exogenous stimuli in the womb and transmitted to embryos.

Uncertainties in ocean-mixing parameterizations are primary sources for ocean and climate modeling biases. Due to lack of process understanding, traditional physics-driven parameterizations perform unsatisfactorily in the tropics. Recent advances in the deep-learning method and the new availability of long-term turbulence measurements provide an opportunity to explore data-driven approaches to parameterizing oceanic vertical-mixing processes.

The frequent occurrences of the second-year surface cooling condition in the eastern equatorial Pacific, as observed in late 2021, are attributed to decadal changes in the thermocline depth, which determine the relative dominances of local cooling effect in the east and subsurface warming effect remotely from the west. Coupled models need to adequately represent these processes in a balanced way, thus being able to successfully predict the observed sea surface temperature evolution in late 2021.

A perfect PtCu nanocube with partial hollow structure was prepared by hydrothermal reaction and its electrocatalytic methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) was studied. The appropriate concentration of shape-control additives KI and triblock pluronic copolymers, poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(propylene oxide)-poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO-PPO-PEO) (P123) play crucial roles in the final product morphology. The PtCu nanocubes can be perfectly in situ immobilizedonto graphene under the action of P123 while the structure and cubic morphologyremain unchanged.

Forecasting fields of oceanic phenomena has long been dependent on physical equation-based numerical models. The challenge is that many natural processes need to be considered for understanding complicated phenomena. In contrast, rules of the processes are already embedded in the time-series observation itself.

The North Pacific Ocean is a significant carbon sink region, but little is known about the dynamics of particulate organic carbon (POC) and the influences of physical and biological processes in this region at the basin scale. Here, we analysed high-resolution surface POC data derived from MODIS-Aqua during 2003-2017, together with satellite-derived sea surface chlorophyll and temperature (SST). There are large spatial and temporal variations in surface POC in the North Pacific.
