The genesis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is closely related to male factors and hyper-activated Ras signals. A transcriptomic database was established via RNA-Seq of HCC (T) and the adjacent precancerous liver tissue (P) of Hras12V transgenic mice (Ras-Tg, HCC model) and the normal liver tissue of wild-type mice (W) of both sexes. Comparative analysis within W, P, and T and correlation expression pattern analysis revealed common/unique cluster-enriched items towards HCC between the sexes.

Efficient and accurate nanocarrier development for targeted drug delivery is hindered by a lack of methods to analyze its cell-level biodistribution across whole organisms. Here we present Single Cell Precision Nanocarrier Identification (SCP-Nano), an integrated experimental and deep learning pipeline to comprehensively quantify the targeting of nanocarriers throughout the whole mouse body at single-cell resolution. SCP-Nano reveals the tissue distribution patterns of lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) after different injection routes at doses as low as 0.

As a fundamental component of antitumor therapy, chemotherapy-induced cardiotoxicity (CIC) has emerged as a leading cause of long-term mortality in patients with malignant tumors. Unfortunately, there are currently no effective therapeutic preventive or treatment strategies, and the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms of CIC remain inadequately understood. A growing number of studies have shown that different mechanisms of cell death, such as apoptosis, pyroptosis, and necroptosis, are essential for facilitating the cardiotoxic effects of chemotherapy.

Diffusion bonding with an interlayer is considered an effective means of obtaining Mg/Al dissimilar alloy joints. However, at low temperatures, it is often impossible to simultaneously achieve joints between the interlayer and Mg/Al under the same bonding parameters. For this reason, the interlayer is usually prefabricated on the substrate, followed by conducting diffusion bonding.

Therapeutic angiogenesis has garnered significant attention as a potential treatment strategy for lower limb ischemic diseases. Although hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) has been identified as a key promoter of therapeutic angiogenesis, its clinical application is limited due to its short half-life. In this study, we successfully developed and characterized platelet membrane-coated HGF-poly(lactic--glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanoparticles (NPs).

  • Acid rain and carbonization are significant environmental factors that deteriorate urban concrete structures, but their combined effects on concrete deterioration have been under-researched.
  • Four experimental regimes were designed to study the deterioration of white ultra-high performance concrete (WUHPC) under these conditions, revealing accelerated corrosion when both acid rain and carbonization were present.
  • The results indicated that acid rain alone led to initial strength loss and creation of white crystals, while the combined effects of acid rain and carbonization greatly increased deterioration rates, resulting in a significant 27.7% reduction in strength and faster erosion compared to single carbonization.

Background: As society ages, the incidence of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures steadily rises. Procedures like percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP) and percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) have proven effective in significantly relieving pain in patients with these fractures. While PKP and PVP are minimally invasive, complications can still occur.

SARS-CoV-2 infection is associated with long-lasting neurological symptoms, although the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Using optical clearing and imaging, we observed the accumulation of SARS-CoV-2 spike protein in the skull-meninges-brain axis of human COVID-19 patients, persisting long after viral clearance. Further, biomarkers of neurodegeneration were elevated in the cerebrospinal fluid from long COVID patients, and proteomic analysis of human skull, meninges, and brain samples revealed dysregulated inflammatory pathways and neurodegeneration-associated changes.

  • - The study identifies a specific strain of a fungus responsible for saffron corm rot (SCR) that shows strong pathogenicity toward saffron but weaker effects on closely related plants, indicating host specialization.
  • - Genome sequencing of the pathogenic saffron strain (XHH35) revealed 90 unique genes linked to essential biological functions that are absent in other strains analyzed.
  • - The research marks the first report of a new fungal species affecting saffron, proposing a rapid identification method for this fungus based on its unique genetic characteristics.

  • Researchers are exploring the role of stromal cells, such as fibroblasts, vascular endothelial cells (VECs), and smooth muscle cells (VSMCs), in the inflammation associated with psoriasis, a skin disease whose causes are not fully understood.
  • A comprehensive analysis of skin samples from psoriasis patients revealed distinct types of fibroblasts, VECs, and VSMCs that are more prevalent in lesional skin, indicating a shift towards inflammatory and angiogenesis-promoting activities in these cells.
  • The study concludes that the interactions between these stromal cells contribute to the pathological changes in psoriasis vulgaris, suggesting that targeting these cells may help improve the inflammatory environment associated with the disease.

When the solar wind interacts with the ionosphere of an unmagnetized planet, it induces currents that form an induced magnetosphere. These currents and their associated magnetic fields play a pivotal role in controlling the movement of charged particles, which is essential for understanding the escape of planetary ions. Unlike the well-documented magnetospheric current systems, the ionospheric current systems driven by solar wind and atmospheric neutral winds have not been quantitatively observed, which constrains the quantification of energy transfer from stars to these planets.

  • A study aimed to improve COPD detection by developing a CNN model that uses double-phase chest CT images along with clinical data.
  • The model was trained on over 2,000 participants and showed superior performance, achieving an AUC of 0.930 in detecting COPD, which is higher than other models tested.
  • The results suggest that this CNN model is a promising tool for accurately diagnosing COPD and may help identify patients who remain undiagnosed despite previous medical evaluations.

The integration of data from multiple modalities generated by single-cell omics technologies is crucial for accurately identifying cell states. One challenge in comprehending multi-omics data resides in mosaic integration, in which different data modalities are profiled in different subsets of cells, as it requires simultaneous batch effect removal and modality alignment. Here, we develop Multi-omics Mosaic Auto-scaling Attention Variational Inference (mmAAVI), a scalable deep generative model for single-cell mosaic integration.

Minimum mortality temperature (MMT) increases with global warming due to climate adaptation, which is crucial for the precise assessment of mortality burden attributed to climate change. Nevertheless, forecasting future MMT poses a challenge given the unavailability of future mortality data. Here, we attempted to develop a novel approach to project future MMT.

To evaluate the variations in COVID-19 case fatality rates (CFRs) across different regions and waves, and the impact of public health interventions, social and economic characteristics, and demographic factors on COVID-19 CFRs, we collected data from 30 countries with the highest incidence rate in three waves. We summarized the CFRs of different countries and continents in each wave through meta-analysis. Spearman's correlation and multiple linear regression were employed to estimate the correlation between influencing factors and reduction rates of CFRs.

Altering the mechanisms of tumor cell death and overcoming the limitations of traditional chemotherapy is pivotal to contemporary tumor treatment. Inducing ferroptosis, while circumventing safety concerns associated with ferrous vectors, through nonferrous ferroptosis is a promising but underexplored frontier in cancer therapy. Histidine phosphatase (LHPP) has emerged as a novel therapeutic target in treating hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but the precise mechanism of LHPP against HCC remains unclear.

Integrating the Knowledge Graphs (KGs) into recommendation systems enhances personalization and accuracy. However, the long-tail distribution of knowledge graphs often leads to data sparsity, which limits the effectiveness in practical applications. To address this challenge, this study proposes a knowledge-aware recommendation algorithm framework that incorporates multi-level contrastive learning.
