Purpose: Cardiomyocyte death is a major cytopathologic response in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and involves complex inflammatory interactions. Although existing reports indicating that mixed lineage kinase domain-like protein (MLKL) is involved in macrophage necroptosis and inflammasome activation, the downstream mechanism of MLKL in necroptosis remain poorly characterized in AMI.

Methods: MLKL knockout mice (MLKL), RIPK3 knockout mice (RIPK3), and macrophage-specific MLKL conditional knockout mice (MLKL) were established.

UHRF1 maintains DNA methylation by recruiting DNA methyltransferases to chromatin. In mouse, these dynamics are potently antagonized by a natural UHRF1 inhibitory protein STELLA, while the comparable effects of its human ortholog are insufficiently characterized, especially in cancer cells. Herein, we demonstrate that human STELLA (hSTELLA) is inadequate, while mouse STELLA (mSTELLA) is fully proficient in inhibiting the abnormal DNA methylation and oncogenic functions of UHRF1 in human cancer cells.

Copper-based pesticides are extensively used in agriculture, yet their impacts on beneficial insects remain poorly understood. Here, we investigate how cupric chloride exposure affects the gut microbiome of Bombyx mori, a model organism crucial for silk production. Using 16S rRNA sequencing, we analyzed the gut bacterial communities of fifth-instar silkworm larvae exposed to different concentrations of cupric chloride (0, 4, and 8 g/kg) in an artificial diet.

Background: The serum C-reactive protein-to-albumin ratio (CAR) has been identified as an adverse prognostic indicator in a variety of diseases. Nevertheless, there have been not been any studies reporting a relationship between CAR and the prognosis of chronic heart failure (CHF). This study was designed to evaluate the association between CAR and all-cause mortality in CHF patients with different ejection fractions.

Background: Mental health significantly impacts college students' academic performance and overall happiness. Active video games (AVGs) have gained popularity among college students due to their ample entertainment, and there is growing interest in utilizing them to address mental health issues. However, there has not been a comprehensive summary and systematic review of research on the effects of AVGs on college students' mental health.

Polystyrene (PS) microplastics are pervasive environmental pollutants that are harmful to aquatic organisms upon degradation. The synthetic androgen 17α-methyltestosterone (MT) is an environmental endocrine-disrupting chemical. This study aimed to systematically evaluate the combined histological and molecular effects of MT and PS exposure on the liver and brain tissues of Danio rerio with focus on lipid metabolism and neural function disruption.

Two traditional methods, including incineration and the sequencing batch reactor activated sludge process (SBR), and two emerging methods, including supercritical water oxidation (SCWO), catalytic wet oxidation (CWO) combined with SBR (CWO-SBR), for high concentration organic wastewater treatment were compared from the view of environmental impact. The printing ink wastewater generated from the surface treatment of electronic products was selected as the typical wastewater and diluted to various concentrations for sensitivity analysis. Simapro 9.

Circular RNA (circRNA) serves as a competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) that plays a pivotal role in the initiation and progression of breast cancer (BC). However, compared to other noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs), research on circRNA in BC is still in its infancy. Through the analysis of circRNA datasets in the GEO database, hsa_circ_0001314, which is upregulated in BC, was selected as the focus of this study.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a leading neurodegenerative disorder without effective treatments. The nonlinear dynamic nature of AD pathophysiology suggested that multiple pharmacological actions of anti-AD drugs should be elucidated. 9-Methylfascaplysin (9-MF) was previously designed and synthesized as a novel anti-AD candidate.

Peri-implant infection is a serious complication in orthopedic surgery. This study aimed to reduce the incidence of peri-implant infection by developing a durable and safe antibacterial silver coating. We compared the antibacterial properties and process controllability of various coating techniques to identify the most effective method for silver coating.

Linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS) can be thoroughly mineralized within sufficient oxygen (O), but which is energy intensive and may causes serious foaming problem. Although cometabolism can achieve efficient LAS removal within a wide range of O dosages, how O dosage systematically affects LAS metabolic pathway is still unclear. Here, membrane aerated biofilm reactor (MABR) enabled accurate O delivery and bulk dissolved oxygen (DO) control.

Background: In recent years, the use of endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) has become increasingly common, leading to severe environmental pollution and harm to aquatic organisms. 17α-Methyltestosterone (MT) is a synthetic androgen that can cause immunotoxicity in aquaculture, affecting fish health. To address this issue, this study aimed to investigate the effect of Vitamin C (VC) on MT-induced immunotoxicity and determine the optimal VC supplementation.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Lianhuaqingwen (LH), a traditional Chinese medicine, presents a broad-spectrum antiviral effect and has been widely used to treat influenza. Given the potential rise of drug-resistant influenza viruses, it is necessary to develop new antiviral drugs and explore combination therapies involving LH in tandem with existing antivirals such as Oseltamivir acid (Osel) or Baloxavir (Bal). These multidrug combinations could help effectively control the seasonal influenza epidemics and reduce the disease burden.

To investigate the protective effects of various wall materials on probiotics, two types of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum 90 (Lp90) microcapsules were prepared using sodium alginate and chitosan (Lp-AC), soy protein isolate (SPI) and reducing sugars conjugate (Lp -MRP) as wall materials, respectively. The physical properties, cell viability under different conditions and the application of the microcapsules were investigated. Results showed that the selected wall materials were safe to Lp90 and their simulated digestion products exhibited antioxidant activities and prebiotic properties.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined the effectiveness of a 14-day vonoprazan (VPZ)-based triple therapy in obese patients with Helicobacter pylori (HP) infections, comparing it to a standard quadruple therapy using bismuth and proton pump inhibitors.
  • A total of 200 obese patients were divided into two groups: one receiving the VPZ regimen and the other receiving the traditional treatment, with various health indicators assessed.
  • Results showed that the VPZ group had a higher treatment success rate and improved gastrointestinal function, particularly in patients with stronger HP infections, suggesting this regimen is safer and more effective for obesity-related HP infections.

The migration of arsenic in groundwater is influenced by the heterogeneity of the medium, and the presence of iron minerals adds complexity and uncertainty to this effect. In this study, a stratified heterogeneous sand column with an embedded hematite lens at the coarse-to-medium sand interface was designed. We introduced an arsenic-laden solution and controlled groundwater flow to investigate the spatiotemporal characteristics of arsenic migration and the impact of hematite dissolution.

Although fat is a crucial source of energy in diets, excessive intake leads to obesity. Fat absorption in the gut is prevailingly thought to occur organ-autonomously by diffusion. Whether the process is controlled by the brain-to-gut axis, however, remains largely unknown.
