A comprehensive study of the angular distributions in the bottom-baryon decays Λ_{b}^{0}→Λ_{c}^{+}h^{-}(h=π,K), followed by Λ_{c}^{+}→Λh^{+} with Λ→pπ^{-} or Λ_{c}^{+}→pK_{S}^{0} decays, is performed using a data sample of proton-proton collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9  fb^{-1} collected by the LHCb experiment at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV. The decay parameters and the associated charge-parity (CP) asymmetries are measured, with no significant CP violation observed. For the first time, the Λ_{b}^{0}→Λ_{c}^{+}h^{-} decay parameters are measured.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates CP symmetry violation in the decay of D^{+} particles into K^{-}K^{+}π^{+} using data from proton-proton collisions at a high energy of 13 TeV.
  • A unique model-independent method was employed to analyze the phase-space distributions of D^{+} and D^{-} particles, correcting for any instrumental biases using D_{s}^{+} decays.
  • The findings indicate no significant evidence of CP violation, with a p value of 8.1%, and measure specific CP asymmetry observables, marking this study as the most sensitive search of its kind in multibody decays.

Background: Low maternal cognitive empathy and higher affective empathy have been linked to increased emotional-behavioral problems (EBPs) in young children, but it remains unclear whether the associations are distinct according to maternal depression. This study aims to explore the moderating role of maternal depression in the association between maternal empathy and EBPs in preschoolers.

Methods: Cross-sectional and representative data were from 19,965 Chinese preschoolers.

Diseases caused by begomoviruses such as tomato yellow leaf curl disease (TYLCD) are major constraints in agriculture. While the interactions between plants and monopartite begomoviruses during TYLCD pathogenesis have been explored extensively, how bipartite begomoviruses interact with tomato plants are understudied. Here we first found that a bipartite begomovirus tomato yellow leaf curl Thailand virus (TYLCTHV) induced stunted growth, leaf curl and yellowing in tomato plants.

Diets containing higher-amylose-content starches were proved to have some beneficial effects on monogastric animals, such as promoting the proliferation of intestinal probiotics. However, current research on the effects of diets with different starch sources on animals at the extraintestinal level is still very limited. We hypothesized that diets with different starch sources may affect lipid-related gene expression and metabolism in the liver of pigs.

  • Two novel loci, qKRN2-1 and qKRN2-2, linked to kernel row number (KRN) in maize were mapped on chromosome 2, identifying a key candidate gene (Zm00001d002989) related to KRN variation.
  • The study utilized teosinte as a donor parent and an inbred maize line (Mo17) as the recurrent parent, explaining around 68.79% of the phenotypic variance with these QTLs.
  • Findings highlight the genetic basis of KRN, offering valuable insights for maize breeding to enhance grain yields.

Purpose: This study was performed to assess the impact of cervical kyphosis on the locations of average center of rotation (COR) of each level preoperatively and to investigate whether uncorrected cervical kyphosis increases the incidence of symptomatic adjacent segment degeneration (ASD) after anterior cervical decompression and fusion (ACDF).

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed all patients surgically treated for cervical myelopathy, radiculopathy, or deformity at a single institution from 2012 to 2018. They were divided into cervical kyphosis and cervical lordosis cohorts.

  • Neoadjuvant immunotherapy combined with chemotherapy improves outcomes for patients with resectable non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and the SACTION01 trial investigates the potential enhancement of this approach by adding stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT).
  • In this phase 2 trial, 46 patients received SBRT followed by immunochemotherapy, resulting in a major pathological response (MPR) in 76% of participants, with some experiencing significant adverse effects, primarily alopecia and neutropenia.
  • The study indicates that preoperative SBRT alongside immunochemotherapy is a viable treatment strategy, although it carries risks for severe adverse events, which need careful management.

Purpose: To compare the mechanical properties of human annulus fibrosus obtained by forceps versus bistoury and observe whether the measurement could be affected by forceps sampling method.

Methods: In this study, the mechanical properties of the the extracellular matrix (ECM) of human annulus fibrosus, including elastic modulus and stiffness, were investigated using atomic force microscope (AFM). Tissue was obtained from patients during operation using a bistoury or nucleus pulposus forceps.

The penetration rate (PR) of tunnel boring machines (TBMs) is often used to evaluate tunneling performance and predict construction period costs. However, most penetration rate (PR) prediction models are based on a single specific project, which leads to poor universality of the models.Furthermore, the value of the cutter head speed set for the prediction of the construction period in the survey and planning stages depends on manual experience and lacks theoretical guidance.

Maize, a salt-sensitive crop, frequently suffers severe yield losses due to soil salinization. Enhancing salt tolerance in maize is crucial for maintaining yield stability. To address this, we developed an introgression line (IL76) through introgressive hybridization between maize wild relatives , , and inbred Zheng58, utilizing the tri-species hybrid MTP as a genetic bridge.

Background: To examine whether parental corporal punishment is associated with increased risk of concurrent and later sleep disturbances among preschoolers, and whether the association is time-sensitive or dose-responsive.

Methods: This 3-year prospective cohort study used data from the Shanghai Children's Health, Education and Lifestyle Evaluation, Preschool(SCHEDULE-P). Participants were newly enrolled preschoolers in November 2016(wave 1) and followed up in April 2018(wave 2) and April 2019(wave 3).

Fine mapping of the maize QTL qSRC3, responsible for red silk, uncovered the candidate gene ZmMYB20, which encodes an R2R3-MYB transcription factor, has light-sensitive expression, and putatively regulates genes expression associated with anthocyanin biosynthesis. Colorless silk is a key characteristic contributing to the visual quality of fresh corn intended for market distribution. Nonetheless, the identification of Mendelian trait loci and associated genes that control silk color has been scarce.

We developed an array of Zea-Tripsacum tri-hybrid allopolyploids with multiple ploidies. We unveiled that changes in genome dosage due to the chromosomes pyramiding and shuffling of three species effects karyotypic heterogeneity, reproductive diversity, and phenotypic variation in Zea-Tripsacum allopolyploids. Polyploidy, or whole genome duplication, has played a major role in evolution and speciation.

Unlabelled: The tassel competes with the ear for nutrients and shields the upper leaves, thereby reducing the yield of grain. The tassel branch number (TBN) is a pivotal determinant of tassel size, wherein the reduced TBN has the potential to enhance the transmission of light and reduce the consumption of nutrients, which should ultimately result in increased yield. Consequently, the TBN has emerged as a vital target trait in contemporary breeding programs that focus on compact maize varieties.

A novel strong fertility restorer gene Rf12 for C-type cytoplasmic male sterility of maize was finely mapped on chromosome 2. Its best candidate gene Zm00001d007531 is predicted to encode a p-type PPR protein. The lack of strong restorer gene of maize CMS-C greatly limits its application in hybrid seed production.
