Clinical research indicates that SARS-CoV-2 infection is linked to several neurological consequences, and the virus is still spreading despite the availability of vaccinations and antiviral medications. To determine how hosts respond to SARS-CoV-2 infection, we employed LC-MS/MS to perform ubiquitinome and proteome analyses of the brain cortexes from K18- mice in the presence and absence of SARS-CoV-2 infection. A total of 8,024 quantifiable proteins and 5,220 quantifiable lysine ubiquitination (Kub) sites in 2023 proteins were found.

Background: Co-morbid hypertension is strong predictor of adverse cardiovascular (CV) outcomes in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) but the optimal target for blood pressure (BP) control in this patient population has not been clearly defined.

Methods: The Cardiovascular Risk reduction in patients with Atrial Fibrillation Trial (CRAFT) is an investigator-initiated and conducted, international, multicenter, open-label, parallel-group, blinded outcome assessed, randomized controlled trial of intensive BP control in patients with AF. The aim is to determine whether intensive BP control (target home systolic blood pressure [SBP] <120 mmHg) is superior to standard BP control (home SBP <135 mmHg) on the hierarchical composite outcome of time to CV death, number of stroke events, time to the first stroke, number of myocardial infarction (MI) events, time to the first MI, number of heart failure hospitalization (HFH) events, and time to the first HFH.

Ischemia Stroke (IS) is an acute neurological condition with high morbidity, disability, and mortality due to a severe reduction in local cerebral blood flow to the brain and blockage of oxygen and glucose supply. Oxidative stress induced by IS predisposes neurons to ferroptosis. TP53-induced glycolysis and apoptosis regulator (TIGAR) inhibits the intracellular glycolytic pathway to increase pentose phosphate pathway (PPP) flux, promotes NADPH production and thus generates reduced glutathione (GSH) to scavenge reactive oxygen species (ROS), and thus shows strong antioxidant effects to ameliorate cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury.
