Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Cricoid Pressure Training and Education Efficacy.

We examined the evidence on the effectiveness of education and training on cricoid pressure (ie, Sellick maneuver) application. Cricoid pressure is used during rapid sequence induction and intubation to reduce the risk of pulmonary aspiration. We searched seven databases for studies on the education and training of health care personnel expected to apply cricoid pressure as a part of their regular clinical responsibilities.

Malignant hyperthermia during laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding.

Background: We report a rare case of malignant hyperthermia during laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding.

Case Description: A 32-y-old female with no previous history of adverse reaction to general anesthesia underwent laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding. Intraoperative monitoring revealed a sharp increase in end-tidal carbon dioxide, autonomic instability, and metabolic and respiratory acidosis, along with other metabolic and biochemical derangements.
