Introduction: While ubiquity of glucagon-like peptide receptor agonists (GLP1-RAs) is rising, guidance from the gastroenterology societies and American Society of Anesthesiologist (ASA) remains in conflict on recommendations regarding preoperative holding before endoscopy. The aim of this study was to address this by evaluating the effect of GLP1-RAs on gastric retention during upper endoscopy.

Consumption of certain probiotic strains may be beneficial for reducing the risk of acute upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs), however, underlying immunological mechanisms are elusive. Bl-04™ has been reported in humans to significantly reduce the risk of URTIs, affect the innate immunity in the nasal mucosa, and reduce nasal lavage virus titer after a rhinovirus (RV) challenge. Using data from a longitudinal viral challenge study, we find that the post-exposure viral shedding and symptom severity are associated with a novel measure of pre-exposure cognitive performance variability (CPV), defined before viral exposure occurs. Each individual's CPV score is computed from data collected from a repeated NeuroCognitive Performance Test (NCPT) over a 3 day pre-exposure period. Of the 18 NCPT measures reported by the tests, 6 contribute materially to the CPV score, prospectively differentiating the high from the low shedders.

The rate of incidentally detected pancreatic cystic lesions (PCLs) has increased over the past decade and was recently reported at 8%. These lesions pose a unique challenge, as each subtype of PCL carries a different risk of malignant transformation, ranging from 0% (pancreatic pseudocyst) to 34-68% (main duct intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm). It is imperative to correctly risk-stratify the malignant potential of these lesions in order to provide the correct care course for the patient, ranging from monitoring to surgical intervention.

Ordinary Portland cement (OPC) is by weight the world's most produced man-made material and is used in a variety of applications in environments ranging from buildings, to nuclear wasteforms, and within the human body. In this paper, we present for the first time the direct deposition of biogenic hydroxyapatite onto the surface of OPC in a synergistic process which uses the composition of the cement substrate. This hydroxyapatite is very similar to that found in nature, having a similar crystallite size, iron and carbonate substitution, and a semi-crystalline structure.

Infection of respiratory mucosa with viral pathogens triggers complex immunologic events in the affected host. We sought to characterize this response through proteomic analysis of nasopharyngeal lavage in human subjects experimentally challenged with influenza A/H3N2 or human rhinovirus, and to develop targeted assays measuring peptides involved in this host response allowing classification of acute respiratory virus infection. Unbiased proteomic discovery analysis identified 3285 peptides corresponding to 438 unique proteins, and revealed that infection with H3N2 induces significant alterations in protein expression.
