Johne's disease (JD), also known as paratuberculosis, is a chronic, untreatable gastroenteritis of ruminants caused by subsp. (MAP) infection. Evidence for host genetic resistance to disease progression exists, although it is limited due to the extended incubation period (years) and diagnostic challenges.

Successful utilization of DNA derived from FFPE samples is dependent upon repairing DNA damage generated from the fixation process. Methods to repair FFPE DNA have been successful in human medicine for a variety of research and clinical applications, yet remain underutilized in veterinary medicine.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFA cross-sectional study was carried out to identify risk factors for bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) infection in 62 randomly selected dairy herds which were tested for BVD serum antibodies by using an indirect ELISA kit (IDEXX). Results from the chi-square test analysis were interpreted by analyzing by chi-square test. A sum of 500 sera samples were screened and 66 animals (13.

Materials And Methods: A total of 20 scab samples collected from 18 goats and 2 sheep from Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, and Tiruvarur districts of Tamil Nadu. Smears were made from softened scab materials and stained by either Gram's or Giemsa staining.
Bovine tuberculosis continued to be a re-emerging problem in some countries especially in endemic areas due to the fact that human and animal health surveillance system is not adopted to diagnose the infection. This crisis can be attributed due to sharing of the same habitat especially in rural areas. In the present study, a total of 148 samples were collected from cattle for isolation over a period of 3 years from cattle with and without lesions, of which 67 isolates were obtained by culture.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOvine paratuberculosis is a threat to small animal holders in terms of economic loss such as reduced growth performance and early culling. In order to study the slaughterhouse prevalence of ovine paratuberculosis, the slaughterhouse sheep samples (which are poor in body condition) collected over a period of two and half years from 1,034 suspected male sheep (poor in body condition) and 40 normal sheep (good body condition and subsequently negative by all the diagnostic tests employed) aged between 16 and 18 months were slaughtered at various abattoirs of Tamil Nadu. All the sheep taken in this study were maintained in almost same management conditions.

Methods: Adults (ages 18-75) with type 1 diabetes wore two sensors simultaneously for 6 days, one each inserted in the abdomen and buttocks.
The biological deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) strand has been increasingly seen as a promising computing unit. A new algorithm is formulated in this paper to design any DNA Boolean operator with molecular beacons (MBs) as its input. Boolean operators realized using the proposed design methodology is presented.

Subjects were given each treatment in a balanced sequence at 7-day intervals. Treatments included 400 mg of norfloxacin alone, 400 mg of norfloxacin 5 min after aluminum-magnesium hydroxide (Maalox), Maalox 2 h after 400 mg of norfloxacin, and 400 mg of norfloxacin 5 min after calcium carbonate (Titralac).
