Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the time interval to menarche after gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRHa) treatment in females with central precocious puberty (CPP) and to identify factors contributing to timing of menarche.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed medical records of 39 females with CPP who reached menarche after GnRHa treatment (leuprolide or histrelin). CPP diagnostic criteria were breast development at <8 years old, measurable pubertal luteinizing hormone and/or estradiol concentrations, and bone age advancement.

The COVID-19 pandemic significates an enormous number of patients with pneumonia that get complicated with severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), some of them with refractory hypercapnia and hypoxemia that need mechanical ventilation (MV). Those patients who are not candidate to extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), the extracorporeal removal of CO (ECCO R) can allow ultra protective MV to limit the transpulmonary pressures and avoid ventilatory induced lung injury (VILI). We report a first case of prolonged ECCO R support in 38 year male with severe COVID-19 pneumonia refractory to conventional support.

Grape seeds (GS) and grape skins (GK) are natural sources of polyphenols with featured antioxidant capacity. An experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of these polyphenol sources in diets formulated to contain the same total extractable grape polyphenol content on growth performance, protein and extractable polyphenol digestibility, plasma and meat α- and γ-tocopherol and thigh meat oxidation in broiler chickens. Five experimental diets were formulated: control, control + vitamin E (200 mg/kg), 30 g/kg GS diet, 110 g/kg GK diet, GS + GK diet (a mixture of 24.

Background: The spectrum of disorders associated with hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia (HHI) has vastly increased over the past 20 years with identification of molecular, metabolic and cellular pathways involved in the regulation of insulin secretion and its actions. Hereditary tyrosinemia (HT1) is a rare metabolic disorder associated with accumulation of toxic metabolites of the tyrosine pathway due to a genetically mediated enzyme defect of fumarylacetoacetate hydrolase. Transient tyrosinemia of the newborn (TTN) is a benign condition with a maturational defect of the enzymes associated with tyrosine metabolism without any genetic abnormalities.

One of the main current challenges in Educational Data Mining and Learning Analytics is the portability or transferability of predictive models obtained for a particular course so that they can be applied to other different courses. To handle this challenge, one of the foremost problems is the models' excessive dependence on the low-level attributes used to train them, which reduces the models' portability. To solve this issue, the use of high-level attributes with more semantic meaning, such as ontologies, may be very useful.

Low-loss depressed cladding waveguide architecture is highly attractive for improving the laser performance of waveguide lasers. We report on the design and fabrication of the "ear-like" waveguide structures formed by a set of parallel tracks in neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) crystal via femtosecond laser writing. The obtained "ear-like" waveguides are with more symmetric mode profiles and lower losses by systematically comparing the guiding properties of two kinds of normal cladding waveguide.

Article Synopsis
  • Patients undergoing surgery with perioperative COVID-19 infections face significantly higher risks of mortality and major complications compared to those without the virus.
  • A study observed a 30-day mortality rate of 12.8% in COVID-19 patients versus 1.4% in non-infected ones, alongside increased rates of surgical and respiratory complications.
  • The findings suggest that elective surgeries should be limited to essential cases to reduce avoidable health risks during the ongoing pandemic.

Introduction: Blood transfusion is still common in patients undergoing major cancer surgery. Blood transfusion can be associated with poor prognosis in patients with cancer. Perioperative Care in the Cancer Patient -1 (ARCA-1) aims to assess in a large cohort of patients the current incidence, pattern of practice and associations between perioperative blood transfusions and 1-year survival in patients undergoing major cancer surgery.

Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) are malignant cells separate from primary tumors, which can migrate through the peripheral blood, colonize other tissues, and lead to the formation of metastases. The first description of CTCs dates back to 1869 when Thomas Ashworth recognized malignant cells similar to the ones of the primary tumor in the blood vessels of an autopsied patient with metastatic cancer. Currently, CTCs have been identified in various types of cancer and have been recognized for their clinical value in the prediction of prognosis, diagnosis of minimal residual diseases, assessment of tumor sensitivity to anticancer drugs, and personalization of therapies.

Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have higher rates of overweight and obesity (OWOB) compared with typically developing (TD) children. Brain functional connectivity differences have been shown in both ASD and OWOB. However, only one study to date has examined ASD and OWOB concurrently, so little is known regarding the neural mechanisms associated with the higher prevalence of OWOB and its behavioral impacts in ASD.

  • A retrospective study was conducted across 20 hospitals in Spain to analyze the use and effectiveness of ramucirumab in treating advanced gastric cancer (AGC) and gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma (GEJ) in patients between December 2015 and December 2018.
  • The study included 317 patients, with the majority receiving a combination treatment of ramucirumab and paclitaxel; most patients were around 62.5 years old and predominantly male.
  • Results showed that the median progression-free survival was 3.9 months for combination therapy and 2.0 months for monotherapy, while overall survival was 7.4 months and 4.3 months, respectively, aligning with existing

Article Synopsis
  • - The study focused on long-term lung transplant (LT) survivors who have normal lung function, aiming to determine their exercise capacity and what factors predict it.
  • - A group of 28 LT recipients, averaging about 49 years old, underwent cardiopulmonary exercise testing and showed near-normal oxygen uptake levels and good quality of life results.
  • - Key predictive factors for exercise capacity included age, sex, and lung diffusion capacity, highlighting that these patients can achieve normal exercise capability years after transplantation.

Background: N,N-dimethyltryptamine is a short-acting psychedelic tryptamine found naturally in many plants and animals. Few studies to date have addressed the neural and psychological effects of N,N-dimethyltryptamine alone, either administered intravenously or inhaled in freebase form, and none have been conducted in natural settings.

Aims: Our primary aim was to study the acute effects of inhaled N,N-dimethyltryptamine in natural settings, focusing on questions tuned to the advantages of conducting field research, including the effects of contextual factors (i.

The landscapes of high-altitude wetland ecosystems are characterized by different kinds of aquatic sites, including ponds holding conspicuous microbial life. Here, we examined a representative pond of the wetland landscape for dynamics of greenhouse gases, and their association with other relevant biogeochemical conditions including diel shifts of microbial communities' structure and activity over two consecutive days. Satellite image analysis indicates that the area of ponds cover 238 of 381.

Brain connectivity studies of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have historically relied on static measures of functional connectivity. Recent work has focused on identifying transient configurations of brain activity, yet several open questions remain regarding the nature of specific brain network dynamics in ASD. We used a dynamic coactivation pattern (CAP) approach to investigate the salience/midcingulo-insular (M-CIN) network, a locus of dysfunction in ASD, in a large multisite resting-state fMRI dataset collected from 172 children (ages 6-13 years; = 75 ASD; = 138 male).

The use of biochar (BC) in feedlot cattle diets has recently been explored as an approach to simultaneously improving animal production and reducing enteric methane (CH) emissions. This study examines the impact of BC on manure properties and whether BC affects manure composition and carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) outputs from feedlot steers offered a barley-based diet with BC at 0.0, 0.
