[Intertypic antigenic determinants of intracellular proteins of different poliovirus serotypes].

Antibody against intracellular virus-specific proteins was produced by immunization of monkeys with extracts of cells infected with poliovirus of one of the three serotypes. Interactions of homotypic and heterotypic antibodies with labeled intracellular virus-specific proteins were studied. Immune complexes formed at this interaction were adsorbed on the surface of Staphylococcus aureus (strain Cowan I) cells, and the virus-specific proteins contained in these complexes were then analysed by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.

[Effect of colchicine on secretion of alveolar surfactant in intact and regenerating rat lungs].

Electron microscopy showed that colchicin in a total dose of 0.6 mg/100 g body weight of noninbred male white rats inhibited alveolar surfactant secretion into the alveolar lumen in both intact and regenerating lungs. This was associated with a partial or complete alveolar collapse.

[Effect of acute and chronic ethanol consumption on rat brain and liver monoamine oxidase activity].

Monoamine oxidase (MAO) activity was studied in hyporthalamus, midbrain, brain stem and liver tissue of rats after single and repeated administration of ethanol using noradrenaline and dopamine as MAO substrates. Small, but statistically significant decrease in the activity MAO of the "A" type was found in rat liver tissue after repeated administration of alcohol. Both single and repeated administrations of ethanol did not affect the enzymatic activity in the brain.

[Ultrastructural organization of the brush alveocytes of normal and hypertrophic rat lungs].

In non-inbred male rats, 140-200 g of body weight, the left lung was removed. In the right lung of the experimental and intact animals, brush alveolocytes were revealed electron microscopically and their structural organization was stated 1, 3, 7, 30 and 274 days after the operation. It was stated that during the process of compensatory hypertrophy in the lung, the occurrence rate of these cells increased considerably.

[Makeup of the extracellular lipids in Rhodotorula glutinis yeasts].

The fractional composition of extracellular lipids extracted with hexane and ethanol was studied in the yeast Rhodotorula glutinis 35 by thin-layer chromatography. The two extracts of extracellular lipids were found to be similar in composition though differing in the quantitative content of individual fractions. The fractional composition of extracellular lipids differed from that of intracellular lipids.

[Kinetics of cell proliferation in regenerating rat liver following subtotal resection].

Partial (78--80%) hepatectomy was conducted in male rats. The maximal mitotic activity of hepatocytes was seen 38--48 hours after the operation. It was found with thymidine-3H (pulse label) that the G2 period lasted 6 hours and the minimal duration of the S-period was 6 hours.

Elementary reasoning--the ability of mice to extrapolate the direction of alimentary stimulus movement--was investigated in gentically different groups of animals. It was shown that mice possessing. Standardization of methods used for testing the safety of tissue culture rabies vaccines.

Tissue culture rabies vaccines are essentially new preparations intended for prophylaxis and treatment of rabies. However, the methods used for their testing are mostly the same as those used for rabies vaccines prepared from brain tissue. Therefore, it is extremely important to develop and standardize methods for testing tissue culture rabies vaccines.

[Antitumor action of cis-dichlorodiammineplatinum(II) and the effectiveness of a combination with sarcolysine].

Therapeutic properties of cis-dichlorodiammineplatinum (II) were studied on 12 strains of transplantable tumors and leukemias in mice. The compound is characterized by a wide spectrum of antitumor action. The greatest effect was gained in adenocarcinoma of the lage intestine (strain AKATOL), proventricular cancer (strain PRG) and adenocarcinoma of the mammary gland (strain Ca-755).
