This document updates the "Clinical practice guidelines for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of obesity" issued by the Nutrition Committee of the Argentine Pediatric Society, published in Archivos Argentinos de Pediatría in 2011. Obesity has a multifactorial etiology. It is recommended to diagnose it taking into account anthropometry, personal and family history, and clinical data that indicate complications (sleep apnea, elevated alanine transaminase and/or glycemia, and other components of the metabolic syndrome).

Article Synopsis
  • Older people's life expectancy has increased, but residing in nursing homes often reduces their sense of connection and vigor, leading to long-term psychophysical issues.
  • Previous studies indicate that virtual environments might have benefits for older adults, but there’s a lack of extensive research on this topic.
  • This study found that exposure to a 3D virtual arctic environment improved connectedness and vigor among older adults compared to a virtual urban environment, suggesting that virtual nature could enhance their well-being in care facilities.

Background: Root phenotyping is particularly challenging because of complexity and inaccessibility of root apparatus. Orientation is one of the most important architectural traits of roots and its characterization is generally addressed using multiple approaches often based on overall measurements which are difficult to correlate to plant specific physiological aspects and its genetic features. Hence, a 3D image analysis approach, based on the recent method of Straumit, is proposed in this study to obtain a local mapping of root angles.

Introduction: Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a common disease, and several scores aim to assess its prognosis. Our study aims to automatically recognize mild AP from computed tomography (CT) images in patients with acute abdominal pain but uncertain diagnosis from clinical and serological data through Radiomic model based on formal methods (FMs).

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the CT scans acquired with Dual Source 256-slice CT scanner (Somatom Definition Flash; Siemens Healthineers, Erlangen, Germany) of 80 patients admitted to the radiology unit of Antonio Cardarelli hospital (Naples) with acute abdominal pain.

Article Synopsis
  • Ocular siderosis (OS) can cause significant visual loss due to ferrous intraocular foreign bodies (IOFB), and timely diagnosis is critical for preventing severe impairment; magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) plays a key role when other imaging fails.
  • A 51-year-old male experienced progressive vision loss in one eye, with initial imaging (CT and ultrasound) not revealing the IOFB, but MRI eventually identified it, leading to surgical intervention.
  • The successful treatment restored the patient's vision to 20/20, reinforcing the need for awareness of OS in cases of unexplained vision loss from prior ocular trauma, even when standard imaging is inconclusive.

(1) Background: To identify a particular setting of biopsy-naïve patients in which it would be reasonable to offer only cognitive targeted prostate biopsy (PBx) with a transrectal approach. (2) Methods: We designed an observational retrospective pilot study. Patients with a prostatic specific antigen (PSA) level > 10 ng/mL, either a normal or suspicious digital rectal examination (DRE), and a lesion with a PI-RADS score ≥ 4 in the postero-medial or postero-lateral peripheral zone were included.

Cholesterol is required to maintain the functional integrity of cellular membrane systems and signalling pathways, but its supply must be closely and dynamically regulated because excess cholesterol is toxic. Sterol regulatory element-binding protein 2 (SREBP2) and the ER-resident protein HMG-CoA reductase (HMGCR) are key regulators of cholesterol biosynthesis. Here, we assessed the mechanistic aspects of their regulation in hepatic cells.

: Unfavorable intrabony defects (IBDs) are associated with the progression of periodontal disease and tooth loss. Growing scientific evidence has demonstrated the effectiveness of platelet concentrations in periodontal treatment. The aim of our study was to demonstrate the non-inferiority of an autogenous bone graft (ABG) associated with leukocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF) compared to ABG + Collagen Membrane in the treatment of IBDs.

Racial disparities in school discipline are well known and widely studied. Studies find, for instance, that Black students in secondary grades experience the highest rates of exclusionary punishment compared with their peers (Losen, 2018). Despite what is known about the prevalence and causes of disparities, such as educator bias in discipline decisions, there is surprisingly little evidence about how to effectively shift these disparities in schools.

Broken screw removal from the implant connection is a common but challenging process. Several proposed methods and technical solutions may result in unsuccessful removal; thus, a novel, more conservative, risk-free method is proposed as a first attempt. The proposal is to use a silicon restoration holder to be twisted counterclockwise on the dried surface of the broken fragment inside the implant connection.
