Mast cell-mediated reactions promote various allergic disease, including anaphylaxis, allergic rhinitis, asthma, and atopic dermatitis. Different data demonstrated an intricate relationship between the use of antihistaminic drugs, the onset of side effects, and the development of resistance, underscoring the importance to find novel therapeutic approaches to treat allergic diseases. Olive leaf extract (OLE), is a by-product of the olive tree rich in bioactive compounds, known for its numerous therapeutic properties, including antioxidant, anti-tumoral and antidiabetic effects.

The present study was designed to evaluate the influence of a high-protein diet under conditions of calorie restriction (CR) in the muscle, adipose tissue, bone, and marrow adipose tissue (MAT). It included three groups of 20 female Wistar Hannover rats, fed with the following diets for 8 wk: control group (C) fed with an AIN93M diet, CR group (R) fed with an AIN-93M diet modified to 30% CR, and CR + high-protein group (H) fed with an AIN-93M diet modified to 30% CR with 40% protein. Body composition was determined by DXA.

The management of allergic events is a growing global health issue, especially in industrialized countries. This disease is an immune-mediated process, regulated by the interaction of IgE with an allergen, resulting in mast cell activation, which concerns the release of several immune-inflammatory modulators, i.e.

This study examined the effect of high irradiance and short exposure times on the depth of cure of six resin-based composites (RBCs). Bluephase PowerCure and the Valo X light-curing units (LCUs) were used to photocure bulk-fill RBCs for their recommended exposure times: Admira Fusion x-tra (AFX/20s), Aura Bulk Fill (ABF/20s), Filtek One Bulk Fill (FOB/20s), Opus Bulk Fill APS (OBF/30s), Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill (TEC/10s) and Tetric PowerFill (TPF/10s). In addition, all bulk-fill RBCs were tested for depth of cure with one short 3 s exposure time from the Bluephase PowerCure or the Valo X in the Xtra Power mode.

Article Synopsis
  • L. is an aromatic plant from the Lamiaceae family, and this study focused on comparing the chemical properties and health benefits of hydroalcoholic extracts from both wild and cultivated versions of the plant.
  • Chemical analysis showed that both types of extracts contain similar phenolic compounds, with notable antioxidant activity linked to their flavonoid content; however, the wild extract exhibited stronger anti-AChE activity compared to the cultivated one.
  • In cell studies, both extracts effectively reduced inflammation and reactive oxygen species (ROS), suggesting their potential for developing new treatments for inflammation-related diseases, and both extracts are deemed suitable for culinary and pharmaceutical uses.

Background: Currently available antiretroviral 2-drug regimen (2DR) fixed dose combinations may not be suitable for specific situations including the presence of resistance associated mutations (RAM) or drug - drug interactions (DDI). The data on the use of the non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor doravirine (DOR) and the integrase inhibitor dolutegravir (DTG) as an alternative 2DR remain scarce.

Methods: People living with HIV with DOR + DTG as a 2DR are being followed in a prospective observational study.

Marine compounds represent a varied source of new drugs with potential anticancer effects. Among these, sponges, including those belonging to the Irciniidae family, have been demonstrated to exert cytotoxic effects on different human cancer cells. Here, we investigated, for the first time, the therapeutic effect of an extract (referred as iSP) from the sponge, (Porifera, Dictyoceratida, and Irciniidae) on A375 human melanoma cells.

species have been widely employed in the projects of reforestation in Tunisia. Although their ecological functions are controversial, these plants are indeed important to counteract soil erosion, and represent a fast-growing source of fuelwood and charcoal wood. In the present study, we considered five species, namely , , , , and cultivated in the Tunisian .

A steep Trendelenburg (ST) position combined with pneumoperitoneum may cause alterations in cerebral blood flow with the possible occurrence of postoperative cognitive disorders. No studies have yet investigated if these alterations may be associated with the occurrence of postoperative cognitive disorders. The aim of the study was to evaluate the association between an increased middle cerebral artery pulsatility index (Pi), measured by transcranial doppler (TCD) 1 h after ST combined with pneumoperitoneum, and delayed neurocognitive recovery (dNCR) in 60 elderly patients undergoing robotic-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy (RALP).

Melanoma is the most dangerous form of skin cancer and is characterized by chemotherapy resistance and recurrence despite the new promising therapeutic approaches. In the last years, erucin (ERU), the major isothiocyanate present in , commonly known as rocket salads, has demonstrated great efficacy as an anticancer agent in different in vitro and in vivo models. More recently, the chemopreventive effects of ERU have been associated with its property of being a HS donor in human pancreatic adenocarcinoma.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study investigated protein-energy wasting (PEW) among dialysis patients in Catalonia, Spain, utilizing a new online tool called Nutrendial for quick assessments of nutritional status.
  • - The findings revealed a PEW prevalence of 23.3%, with a higher rate in hemodialysis patients (26%) compared to peritoneal dialysis (10.2%), and identified Malnutrition Inflammation Score (MIS) as the most effective measure for diagnosing PEW.
  • - The tool's results indicated low nutritional intervention for PEW patients (14%), highlighting the potential for healthcare professionals to better assess and address nutritional needs in the dialysis population.

  • N-Acylethanolamine acid amidase (NAAA) is crucial for breaking down certain compounds and its inhibition has potential benefits in treating inflammatory diseases and now, colorectal cancer (CRC).
  • In preclinical models, the NAAA inhibitor AM9053 significantly reduced CRC tumor growth and altered the tumor secretome, suggesting that NAAA plays a role in tumor progression through specific molecular pathways.
  • Findings indicate that NAAA could serve as a promising drug target for CRC treatment, as its inhibition impacted cell growth and cycle regulation in cancer cells, with reduced expression noted in human CRC samples.

Over recent years, αvβ6 and αvβ8 Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD) integrins have risen to prominence as interchangeable co-receptors for the cellular entry of herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV-1). In fact, the employment of subtype-specific integrin-neutralizing antibodies or gene-silencing siRNAs has emerged as a valuable strategy for impairing HSV infectivity. Here, we shift the focus to a more affordable pharmaceutical approach based on small RGD-containing cyclic pentapeptides.
