LARC is managed by multimodal treatments whose intensity can be highly modulated. In this context, we need surrogate endpoints to help predict long-term outcomes and better personalize treatments. A previous study identified 2yDFS as a stronger predictor of OS than pCR in LARC patients undergoing neoadjuvant RT.

Methods: Pre- and post-nCRT MRIs of LARC patients treated at a single institution from May 2008 to November 2016 were retrospectively collected. Radiomic features were extracted from the GTV and mesorectum.
Using conformal invariance of gravitational waves, we show that for a luminal modified gravity theory, the gravitational-wave propagation and luminosity distance are the same as in general relativity. The relation between the gravitational-wave and electromagnetic-wave luminosity distance gets modified, however, for electromagnetism minimally coupled to the Jordan frame metric. Using effective field theory we show that the modified relation obtained for luminal theories is also valid for nonluminal theories with Jordan frame matter-gravity coupling.

However, the association between wing morphology and migratory behavior can be masked by contrasting selective pressures related to foraging behavior, habitat selection and predator avoidance, possibly at the cost of lower flight energetic efficiency. We studied the handwing morphology of Eurasian barn swallows from four populations representing a migration distance gradient.

Objectives: We evaluated the role of MRI in detecting labyrinthine signal changes and the impact of these changes on the prognosis of SSNHL after the intratympanic corticosteroid injection.
Methods: A prospective study was held between January and June 2022.
In a recent household transmission study of SARS-CoV-2, we found extreme differences in SARS-CoV-2 viral loads among paired saliva, anterior nares swab (ANS), and oropharyngeal swab specimens collected from the same time point. We hypothesized these differences may hinder low-analytical-sensitivity assays (including antigen rapid diagnostic tests [Ag-RDTs]) by using a single specimen type (e.g.

The purpose of the study was to investigate the role of different factors in influencing the tumor response rate of children receiving chemotherapy for their symptomatic glioma.
Methods: Between 1995 and 2015, 60 patients with low-grade glioma (42 sporadic cases and 18 cases with NF1) were treated.
Introduction: Endometrial cancer (EC) is the most common gynecological cancer with a rising incidence, attributed to advanced life expectancy and obesity. Adipose tissue (AT) is an important endocrine organ, and its metabolic activity is affected by the different anatomical distribution or locations. AT distribution influences a number of diseases.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFatty liver is a disease characterized by a buildup of lipids in the liver, often resulting from excessive consumption of high-fat-containing foods. Fatty liver can degenerate, over time, into more severe forms of liver diseases, especially when oxidative stress occurs. Olive leaf extract (OLE) is a reliable source of polyphenols with antioxidant and hypolipidemic properties that have been successfully used in medicine, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical products.

From an environmental perspective, it is highly desirable replacing the hazardous methods currently used to extract lignin from lignocellulosic biomass and develop more sustainable and environmentally friendly approaches. Therefore, in this work, levulinic acid (a "green" solvent obtained from biomass) was successfully used, for the first time, to selectively extract high-quality lignin from pine wood sawdust residues at 200 °C for 6 h (at atmospheric pressure).

A rescue hepatectomy (RH), on the contrary, is a rare and controversial procedure in which a deteriorating liver graft causing failure of other organ systems is removed to stabilize the patient's condition before a new liver graft is available. MATERIAL AND METHODS In this retrospective cohort study, we evaluated the outcomes of the 104 patients who were listed for a first single-organ reLT in our center during the period 2000-2019, to compare the results after RH to other reLTs.

DESs, normally formed by two or more components via various hydrogen bond interactions, offer high potential as medium for biocatalysis reactions where they can improve efficiency by enhancing substrate solubility and the activity and stability of the enzymes. In the current study, the stabilization of Humicola insolens cutinase (HiC) in natural deep eutectic solvents (NADESs) was assessed.

Nowadays, several treatment options are available; thus, avoiding misdiagnosis is crucial to starting therapy in early disease stages. However, clinical diagnosis may be difficult, as the disease may present with unspecific symptoms and signs.

There is wide variation in the clinical presentation, and because of its unique characteristics, several evaluation tools of clinical severity, behavior, and functional motor abilities have been proposed specifically for it. This opinion paper aims to present up-to date evaluation tools which have specifically been adapted for individuals with RTT often used by the authors in their clinical and research practice and to provide the reader with essential considerations and suggestions regarding their use.

Drugs that are currently used for the treatment of these diseases act at the receptor and at the pre-receptor levels, targeting the local formation of estrogens. On August 2019 a staphylococcal food poisoning outbreak occurred in an elderly home in Piedmont, Italy. The epidemiological investigation performed among the persons that consumed the meal identified chicken salad as the most likely source of the outbreak. Staphylococcus aureus was isolated from a total of seven samples, namely one vomit sample from a guest of the nursing home, two food samples (chicken salad with and without mayonnaise) and nasal swabs collected from a total of four persons working in the kitchen of the nursing home.
