Most analyses of racial and ethnic disparities in healthcare focus on individuals rather than organizations. Healthcare organizations may be one mechanism that produces disparities if the representation of minorities within organizations' patient populations is associated with differential patterns of service delivery. This research considers whether the racial and ethnic composition of addiction treatment centers' caseloads is associated with the likelihood that organizations offer any prescription medications to treat addiction, psychiatric conditions, or pain.

As the Clinical Trials Network (CTN) begins to focus efforts on disseminating the results of its research studies to the addiction treatment field, it is important to begin to assess the capacity of programs outside the CTN to integrate with fidelity these endorsed treatment practices. To date, no data exist to assess the representativeness of opioid treatment programs (OTPs) participating in the CTN, nor potential barriers to the effective diffusion of practices aimed at the treatment of opioid-dependent patients, including buprenorphine. Using data obtained from OTPs within the CTN (n = 49) and a sample drawn from the population of U.

The effect of local application of scaffold-like preparation rich in growth factors (PRGF) on bone regeneration in artificial defects and the potential effect of humidifying titanium dental implants with liquid PRGF on their osseointegration were investigated. The PRGF formulations were obtained from venous blood of three goats and applied either as a 3D fibrin scaffold (scaffold-like PRGF) in the regeneration of artificial defects or as liquid PRGF via humidifying the implants before their insertion. Initially, 12 defects were filled with scaffold-like PRGF and another 12 were used as controls.

Our aim was to evaluate remission and relapse rates and the number of laser sessions necessary for treatment. Among the relapses observed, we sought to differentiate between the persistence and recurrence of an HPV-induced lesion. This retrospective study was performed in patients, immunocompetent or not, treated with CO2 laser for condylomatous or neoplastic anogenital lesions by the same operator over a period of 12 months.

Article Synopsis
  • This study explores the idea that clinical supervision can reduce counselor turnover in the substance abuse treatment field by examining its impact on emotional exhaustion and turnover intention among a large group of counselors (N = 823).
  • Results show that better clinical supervision is linked to lower levels of emotional exhaustion and turnover intention, indicating it might help counselors feel more supported and satisfied in their roles.
  • Additionally, the study uses a structural equation model to demonstrate that factors like job autonomy and perceptions of fairness in the workplace mediate the relationship, suggesting that quality supervision enhances counselors' workplace experiences and contributes to their well-being.

Introduction: Although extensive screening in patients with venous thromboembolism (VTE) may result in early identification of hidden cancer, it is unknown whether the prognosis of these patients may be favorably influenced.

Patients And Methods: RIETE is an ongoing, prospective registry of consecutive patients with objectively confirmed, symptomatic, acute VTE. We compared the 3-month outcome of patients with hidden cancer with that in patients in whom no symptoms of cancer were noted.

Objective: Prominent on the nation's research agenda on substance-use disorders treatment is the dissemination of effective pharmacotherapies. Thus, the purpose of this article is to use a "diffusion of innovations" theoretical framework to examine the organizationallevel predictors of the adoption of a pharmacotherapy, naltrexone (Revia), in private substance use-disorders treatment centers (N = 165).

Method: Data for these analyses were derived from the National Treatment Center Study, which contains four waves of data collected between 1994 and 2003.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse's Clinical Trials Network (CTN) aims to improve addiction treatment in the United States in part through technology transfer. Given the importance of clinicians in the technology transfer process, this research compares 561 CTN-affiliated and 1,745 non-CTN counselors' ratings of buprenorphine acceptability. CTN-affiliated counselors reported significantly greater acceptability than non-CTN counselors.

Formal thought disorder (FTD) has been associated with abnormalities in the semantic memory system. However, it is still unclear whether these abnormalities are related to the organization of the semantic system, or to the automatic spread of activation-inhibition in semantic networks. In this paper these alternative proposals are examined.

Many studies of innovation adoption in health care organizations focus either on organizational characteristics or the institutional environment, but not both. Furthermore, these perspectives are rarely employed simultaneously in both public and private health care organizations. This research considers the public-private distinction, organizational compatibility, and interorganizational referral relationships in the use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) by substance abuse treatment organizations.

Single crystal X-ray analysis of compounds H2pmdc.2H2O (1), KHpmdc (2), and K2pmdc (3) shows that the pyrimidine-4,6-dicarboxylate (pmdc) dianion presents an almost planar geometry which confers a potential capability to act as a bis-bidentate bridging ligand, and therefore, to construct 1-D metal complexes. Based on this assumption, we have designed the first six transition metal complexes based on this ligand of formula {[M(micro-pmdc)(H2O)2].

Researchers and policymakers are increasingly focusing on factors that facilitate or impede the diffusion of evidence-based treatment techniques into routine clinical practice. One potentially fruitful avenue of research is the influence of involvement in research networks as a predictor of organizational innovation. The Clinical Trials Network (CTN) is examining a number of behavioral and pharmacological treatment techniques in controlled multisite studies.

Although non-medical use of controlled-release (CR) oxycodone is increasing, little is known about the substance abuse treatment facilities serving individuals dependent on this medication. This study examines the associations between the characteristics of treatment organizations and two dependent variables: any CR-oxycodone admissions and the number of CR-oxycodone admissions in the past six months. Face-to-face interviews were conducted with administrators of 363 publicly funded and 401 privately funded treatment centers in the US.

Substance abuse treatment clients present with an array of service needs in various life domains. Ideal models of addiction treatment incorporate provision or linkages to services to meet clients' multiple needs; in turn, these wraparound and supportive services are associated with improvements in client retention and treatment outcomes. Using data from large samples of specialty addiction treatment providers in the public and private sectors, this article examines the extent and organizational correlates of the comprehensiveness of service delivery.

Clinical research is increasingly being conducted in community-based addiction treatment settings. Although the primary focus of such research is on the development of effective clinical interventions, less attention has been paid to the potential impact of these projects on counseling staff who are involved in their implementation. Such involvement may be perceived as stressful or rewarding, and these perceptions may be associated with counselors' turnover intention.

Reactions of adenine with water-soluble oxalato complexes at acidic pH give the compounds (1H,9H-ade)2[Cu(ox)2(H2O)] (1) [H2ade=adeninium cation (1+), ox=oxalato ligand (2-)] and (3H,7H-ade)2[M(ox)2(H2O)2].2H2O [M(II)=Co (2), Zn (3)]. The X-ray single crystal analyses show that the supramolecular architecture of all compounds is built up of anionic sheets of metal-oxalato-water complexes and ribbons of cationic nucleobases among them to afford lamellar inorganic-organic hybrid materials.

Given the associations between poor quality sleep and health, it is important to consider whether job stressors are related to sleep-related outcomes. Studies from Europe and Japan suggest that these stressors negatively impact sleep, but there are few studies of job stressors and sleep quality that draw upon large representative samples of workers in the USA. Using data collected via telephone interviews from a nationally representative random sample of 1715 American full-time employees, this research considers three dependent variables of past-month poor sleep quality: number of days the respondent had difficulty initiating sleep, number of days of difficulty maintaining sleep, and number of days of non-restorative sleep.

The goal of this study is to determine why recovering substance abuse counselors are paid less, on average and controlling for other factors, than nonrecovering substance abuse counselors. The data come from the 2002-2003 wave of the National Treatment Center Study and consist of 1,487 full-time counselors from nationally representative samples of public and private substance abuse treatment programs in the United States. We use ordinary least squares regression models to estimate the differential impacts of numerous personal and program characteristics on the self-reported annual salaries of recovering and nonrecovering counselors.

Stochastic models describing growth kinetics are very important for predicting many biological phenomena. In this paper, a new Gompertz-type diffusion process is introduced, by means of which bounded sigmoidal growth patterns can be modeled by time-continuous variables. The main innovation of the process is that the bound can depend on the initial value, a situation that is not provided by the models considered to date.

Objective: The high rate of co-occurrence of psychiatric and substance use disorders suggests that specialty substance abuse treatment facilities may be an important site for the delivery of psychotropic medications. However, the literature suggests there may be associations between the percentage of racial and ethnic minority clients and the availability of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) in these facilities.

Methods: Survey data from the National Treatment Center Study, comprising nationally representative samples of 326 publicly funded and 339 privately funded substance abuse treatment centers, were used to measure the availability of SSRI medications from 2002 to 2004.
