Article Synopsis
  • - The study examined the prevalence of *spp.* mites in 2508 patients from northern Poland suspected of having demodicosis, with a total of 3684 tests conducted.
  • - Only 43.02% of the tests confirmed the presence of *spp.*, showing a positive correlation with the patient's age and higher detection rates on eyelids and facial skin.
  • - Men were found to have *spp.* more often than women, and effective diagnosis of demodicosis remains challenging due to vague symptoms and low confirmation rates, particularly among younger patients.

Introduction: The pathogenesis of atopic dermatitis (AD) involves complex interactions between environmental factors, the skin microbiome, epidermal barrier defects, and altered immune responses that develop on a not fully understood specific genetic background.

Aim: We aimed to evaluate the contribution of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the IL-35 genes ( and ) towards AD susceptibility and clinical characteristics of AD in the Polish population. Two SNPs (rs568408, rs582054) in and one SNP (rs428253) in were selected.

Article Synopsis
  • Antihistamines are used to treat allergic reactions, but their effects can be slow, so combining them with fast-acting pain relievers might help alleviate discomfort from skin reactions.
  • The study aimed to assess the effectiveness and safety of a topical gel that combines diphenhydramine and lidocaine compared to a placebo in treating local skin inflammatory and allergic reactions.
  • Results showed that the combination gel significantly reduced itch intensity faster than the placebo, confirming its efficacy in alleviating discomfort from skin allergies.

Onychomycosis is a common fungal nail infection that is difficult to diagnose due to its similarity to other nail conditions. Accurate identification is essential for effective treatment. The current gold standard methods include microscopic examination with potassium hydroxide, fungal cultures, and Periodic acid-Schiff biopsy staining.

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have revolutionized cancer treatment, yet they can induce immune-related adverse events (irAEs), including cutaneous toxicities such as lichenoid eruptions. Pembrolizumab, a PD-1 inhibitor, is known for its association with lichen-planus-like reactions, while the side effect profile of combining immunotherapy with MK-4830, a novel fully human IgG4 monoclonal antibody that targets ILT-4, remains limited.

Case Report: We present a case of a 47-year-old female with metastatic breast cancer who developed a grade 2 Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE) lichenoid reaction after 9 months of MK-4830 and pembrolizumab use.

: Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are a significant public health concern worldwide, yet data on their prevalence and epidemiology, particularly in Central and Eastern Europe, remain scarce. This study aimed to assess the prevalence, anatomical localization, symptomatic/asymptomatic course, and co-infection patterns of STIs among men. : This retrospective study analyzed data collected between May 2021 and July 2023, including sociodemographic, sexual behavior, and clinical data from 139 male participants.

Article Synopsis
  • COVID-19 vaccines are effective and safe, but they have been linked to cutaneous side effects, including cases of primary cutaneous lymphomas (CLs), prompting this systematic review to explore the potential relationship.
  • A review of literature from various databases identified 12 studies with 24 patients, revealing that the majority of CLs were indolent cutaneous T-cell lymphomas, mainly occurring after mRNA-based vaccine doses.
  • The findings suggest a possible association between COVID-19 vaccines and CLs, likely due to immune responses, but more research is necessary to establish a clear causal link, especially for patients with prior lymphoproliferative disorders.

Article Synopsis
  • The umbilicus, located in the center of the abdomen, can host various lesions, but there is limited knowledge about how these lesions appear under dermoscopy.
  • This study aimed to compile existing research on the dermoscopic features of umbilical lesions, examining 34 studies that met specific criteria and analyzed a total of 39 different lesions.
  • The results suggest that dermoscopy is a useful, non-invasive tool for differentiating umbilical lesions, but the study also highlights issues like inconsistent terminology and low quality of evidence among the included studies.

Unlabelled: This study aimed to comprehensively analyze the problem of overweight and obesity among psoriatic patients by investigating the influence of body mass composition, anhedonia and depression, environmental factors and gene polymorphisms.

Methods: The study enrolled 30 overweight or obese adult patients with chronic plaque psoriasis and 30 overweight or obese volunteers (northern Poland region, Caucasian population). Mood disorders, body mass composition by using bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) and gene polymorphisms (rs9939609, rs1558902) by tetra-primer amplification refractory mutation system PCR (T-ARMS-PCR) were assessed.

Dermatophytoses of the skin and scalp are common disorders in the pediatric population. The resemblance of the clinical presentation to other dermatoses can make fungal infections challenging to diagnose. We present three cases of dermatophytoses in children.

Article Synopsis
  • - Pediatric mastocytosis is mainly a skin disease known as cutaneous mastocytosis (CM), characterized by the buildup of mast cells in the skin without affecting other areas of the body.
  • - CM can be categorized into three forms: maculopapular CM (most common), diffuse CM (rare and severe), and mastocytoma (involves solitary or small nodular lesions).
  • - While childhood MPCM and mastocytoma are often benign and may resolve on their own, diffuse CM can lead to severe symptoms and a higher risk of anaphylaxis, and systemic mastocytosis is rare in children.

Dear Editor, A 41-year-old man presented to the Department of Dermatology for the first time due to an exacerbation of atopic dermatitis (AD) in the form of erythroderma. The patient had a history of atopic diseases, with being AD active from infancy. On clinical examination, generalized erythematous skin lesions causing acute pruritus and accompanied by severe skin exfoliation and dryness were present.

Skin adverse reactions to diabetes medical devices have been reported frequently over recent years. Adhesives attaching glucose sensors and continuous insulin infusion sets to the skin are proven to cause both allergic contact dermatitis and irritant contact dermatitis in patients with diabetes mellitus. Several allergens contained in adhesives and/or parts of medical devices are documented to cause allergic contact dermatitis, with acrylate chemicals being the most common culprit-especially isobornyl acrylate (IBOA), but also 2,2'-methylenebis(6-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol) monoacrylate or cyanoacrylates.

Mastocytosis is a heterogeneous group of diseases associated with excessive proliferation and accumulation of mast cells in different organs. Recent studies have demonstrated that patients suffering from mastocytosis face an increased risk of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer. The cause of this has not yet been clearly identified.
