Double-J ureteral stent (DJUS) is an important therapeutic tool in endourology. There are well-known frequent complications associated with DJUS placement such as distal and proximal migration within the urinary tract. However, perforation and stent misplacement are uncommon but serious complications of this technique.

Methods: This was a retrospective study of male patients submitted to kidney transplantation in our center from 1980 to 2016 evaluating incidence, treatment, and follow-up of Pca in our population.
Background: Imbalance between transplanted renal mass and the metabolic demands of the recipient has been identified as a predictor of renal graft function. Multiple factors have been used to test this influence, but none of them is consensually accepted. The aim of this study is to evaluate the influence of the imbalance between transplanted renal mass and the metabolic needs of the recipient by analyzing the relationship between the ratio of the weight of the renal graft and the body weight of the recipient (Kw/Rw) on transplantation outcomes.

The outcomes of retransplantation are poorer than those of primary transplantation and sensitization is documented to be a major reason. The management of a failed allograft that is not immediately symptomatic is still very controversial.

Methods: The Portuguese telephone book (2007/2008) was the sampling frame for subjects >39 years (n = 1,934). The time spent with interviews and unsuccessful contacts was quantified and the yielding of the contact attempts compared according different schedules.
Introduction: Diabetic men with erectile dysfunction (ED) are less responsive to therapy with type 5 phosphodiesterase (PDE5) inhibitors. Although an impairment of the nitric oxide (NO)/cyclic guanosin-monophosphate (cGMP) pathway has been shown in diabetic ED vs. non-diabetic ED, the functionality of NO/cGMP pathway in non-diabetic and diabetic ED patients with respect to non-ED patients has not been established.

Introduction And Hypothesis: To quantify the prevalence (previous month) of urinary incontinence (UI) and overactive bladder (OAB), to assess its relation with known risk factors and to characterize UI awareness and treatment.
Methods: Telephone interviews were conducted in 1,934 Portuguese subjects aged > or =40 years. UI was defined according to the International Continence Society definitions.
Unlabelled: Our objective was to study the influence on transplant outcome of unilateral native nephrectomy of massively enlarged kidneys at the time of renal transplantation among patients with end-stage renal disease owing to autosomal-dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD).
Patients And Methods: We studied 159 renal transplants in patients with ADPKD divided into two groups according to the need to perform a unilateral native nephrectomy owing to enlarged kidneys (N+; n = 143) versus those not (N0; n = 16) needing this procedure. Parameters related to the donors, grafts, recipients, and operative data were correlated with short- and long-term outcomes.
Objective: We sought to compare the efficacy of Celsior and University of Wisconsin (UW) solutions on the perfusion and cold storage of renal grafts for human transplantation.
Patients And Methods: Retrospective analyses of 313 kidney transplants were performed between 2002 and 2005; group A (n = 160), UW solution and group B (n = 153), Celsior solution were used in the preservation of the organs. The mean donor age was lower in group B (group A = 42.
Unlabelled: Our purpose was to evaluate changes in cadaveric donor factors between 1993 and 2004 and their impact on the short- and long-term outcomes of renal transplants in a single center.
Patients And Methods: Cadaveric renal transplants performed in our unit between 1993 and 2004 were divided in two groups of identical length: A (n = 455; 1993-1998) and B (n = 465; 1999-2004). Major differences related to donor, graft, and recipient factors were analyzed between groups and correlated with main outcome parameters.
Purpose: To retrospectively review our experience with pediatric renal transplantation and to compare the results with the adult population.
Patients And Methods: Between January 1981 and August 2003, 74 renal transplants were performed in patients < or =18 years at the time of the transplant--the pediatric group versus 1153 patients in the adult group. We analyzed various risk factors for actuarial kidney graft and patient survivals using the Kaplan-Meier method.
Purpose: Compare renal transplant long-term outcomes among recipients aged 60 years or older with those in younger patients.
Patients And Methods: We analyzed 103 transplants in recipients above 60 years of age for the influence of key factors related to the graft and patient. The results were compared with 1060 transplant recipients aged 18 to 59 years.
Objective: We prospectively conducted a European multi-center study to assess the safety and efficacy of injecting dehydrated ethanol using a specialized injection system for the treatment of BPH.
Methods: Patients with symptomatic BPH were enrolled and evaluated to undergo transurethral ethanol ablation of the prostate for their BPH condition. Procedures were performed using the ProstaJect device.
A phase I clinical trial was performed to examine the safety and immunogenicity of a multi-epitope polypeptide comprising the central 15 amino acids of the V3 loop from six HIV-1 isolates. This protein called TAB9 was emulsified in Montanide ISA720 (Seppic, Paris) and administered intramuscularly at doses of 0, 0.2 and 1 mg to 24 healthy, HIV-1 seronegative adult males.

According to the epidemiology of human immunodeficiency virus infection in Cuba, the main sources of infection have been persons coming from foreign countries, mainly from Africa, and individuals who have had sexual contacts with foreigners in Cuba. However, the first Cuban HIV-1 isolates sequenced have been all classified as subtype B. In this note we report the sequence of the gp120 C2/V3 region from 11 HIV-1 isolates from Cuban patients.

Materials And Methods: An open study was carried out with 25 patients with chronic hepatitis B who had previously received placebo (first phase) as part of a randomized, double blind study and who remained HBeAg and HBV DNA positive. In the second phase they received oral ribavirin (1,200 mg/day) for 24 weeks and the results of the first phase were compared with those of the second.
We report the positive identification of several members of the guerrillas led by Ernesto "Che" Guevara on the 1960 s in Bolivia by means of DNA fingerprinting. Successful DNA typing of both short tandem repeat loci and the hypervariable region of the human mitochondrial DNA was achieved after extracting total DNA from bones obtained from two burial sites. Given the size of the Cuban database for the STR allele frequencies, a conservative approach was followed to estimate the statistical significance of the genetic evidence.

Although several therapeutic options have become available in the last 20 years, only a small percentage of the patients, perhaps no more than 10%, seek treatment. The recent introduction of oral and intra-urethral medication has been highly publicised, therefore more patients will be involved in this new wave of enthusiasm for non-invasive options.

The origin of HIV-1 species, responsible for the AIDS epidemic in Cuba, is a subject that has been intensely debated. This study represents an initial attempt to shed light on this issue, through sequence analysis of the V3 regions of viruses isolated from 15 Cuban subjects. We now report that these viruses fall within three distinct, well-recognized groupings.
