Patients' experience of menopausal symptoms post-chemotherapy treatment for gestational trophoblastic neoplasia.

Purpose: We aimed to explore patient's experience of chemotherapy-induced menopausal symptoms; to ascertain how patients tried to alleviate their symptoms and how health professionals supported them in order to identify current unmet needs.

Methods: We designed a retrospective cross-sectional exploratory study of a sample of 11 women who received multi-agent combination chemotherapy for Gestational Trophoblastic Neoplasia. Postal surveys using the Greene Climacteric Scale (GCS) questionnaire followed up by semi-structured telephone interviews were used.

Host shifts to new plant species can drive speciation for plant-feeding insects, but how commonly do host shifts also drive diversification for the parasites of those same insects? Oak gall wasps induce galls on oak trees and shifts to novel tree hosts and new tree organs have been implicated as drivers of oak gall wasp speciation. Gall wasps are themselves attacked by many insect parasites, which must find their hosts on the correct tree species and organ, but also must navigate the morphologically variable galls with which they interact. Thus, we ask whether host shifts to new trees, organs, or gall morphologies correlate with gall parasite diversification.

Creation and Expansion of a Mixed Patient Intermediate Care Unit to Improve ICU Capacity.

Objectives: ICU capacity strain is associated with worsened outcomes. Intermediate care units (IMCs) comprise one potential option to offload ICUs while providing appropriate care for intermediate acuity patients, but their impact on ICU capacity has not been thoroughly characterized. The aims of this study are to describe the creation of a medical-surgical IMC and assess how the IMC affected ICU capacity.

The association of forced expiratory volume in one second with occupational exposures in a longitudinal study of adults in a rural community in Iowa.

Purpose: The Keokuk County Rural Health Study (KCRHS) is a longitudinal population-based study conducted in rural Iowa. A prior analysis of enrollment data identified an association of airflow obstruction with occupational exposures only among cigarette smokers. The current study used spirometry data from all three rounds to investigate whether level of forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV) and longitudinal change in FEV were associated with occupational vapor-gas, dust, and fumes (VGDF) exposures, and whether these associations were modified by smoking.

Background: Clinical outcomes in gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD) are generally excellent, but GTD is a rare and complex condition that requires specialist information and support to offer a gold standard of care. Across Europe, specialist nurses and/or midwives are increasingly common in the GTD multidisciplinary team to work alongside medical professionals in a holistic model of care; however, the role is sometimes non-existent or can vary significantly between GTD centres.

Stress is a significant contributor to the development and progression of substance use disorders (SUDs) and is problematic as it is unavoidable in daily life. Therefore, it is important to understand the neurobiological mechanisms that underlie the influence of stress on drug use. We have previously developed a model to examine the contribution of stress to drug-related behavior by administering a stressor, electric footshock stress, daily at the time of cocaine self-administration in rats resulting in an escalation of cocaine intake.

Effects of nordic walking exercise on gait, motor/non-motor symptoms, and serum brain-derived neurotrophic factor in individuals with Parkinson's disease.

Objective: The primary purpose of this study was to investigate the immediate and long-term effects of Nordic Walking (NW) exercise on walking function, motor/non-motor Parkinson's Disease (PD) symptoms, and serum brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in persons with idiopathic PD.

Methods: Twelve community-dwelling participants with mild to moderate idiopathic PD and varied degrees of gait dysfunction were recruited for this prospective, repeated measures design that examined clinical measures and BDNF levels at baseline (T0), post-intervention (T1) and 3-month follow-up (T2). Participants engaged in 6 weeks of supervised NW exercise training with individualized instruction, followed by 14 weeks of independent NW exercise with remote coaching.

BACKGROUND Synchronous malignancies are primary cancers that are diagnosed in a single individual within a 2-month period. Synchronous malignancies are uncommon, involving only 2.4-8% of all cancer cases, with a very low number of cases of simultaneous gastric and pancreatic cancer.

This is a personal story about the implementation and building of an independent outpatient fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNA) clinic. The story spans 30-years. The clinic was opened in 1991 and for the first five-years, FNA biopsies were done by palpation.

Case Presentation: Here we presented a case of post-Coronavirus Disease 2019 infection Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein Antibody Disorder in a 41-year-old male who presented with gait instability, urinary retention, and confusion.

CNS and PNS manifestation in immune checkpoint inhibitors: A systematic review.

Introduction: Immunomodulatory therapies, including the use of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), have made a profound impact on treatment of advanced cancers in recent decades. Neurologic immune-related adverse events (irAEs) related to use of these agents are rare but potentially fatal sequelae. This systematic reviewed aimed to describe onset, clinical features, treatment, and outcome of neurological irAEs following ICI usage.

Comparison of the impact of chronic corticosteroid therapy on critical care outcomes of COVID-19 patients with and without history of chronic liver disease.

There is a paucity of studies investigating the impact of chronic corticosteroid use for coexisting conditions in patients with Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). Additionally, the information regarding the impact of chronic liver disease (CLD) on COVID-19 outcomes is evolving. Our study aims to investigate hospitalization outcomes of patients with COVID-19 on long term corticosteroids for coexisting conditions while also seeking to compare outcomes between such patients with a history of CLD to analyze the impact on mortality.

Workplace indoor environmental quality and asthma-related outcomes in healthcare workers.

Background: Asthma-related health outcomes are known to be associated with indoor moisture and renovations. The objective of this study was to estimate the frequency of these indoor environmental quality (IEQ) factors in healthcare facilities and their association with asthma-related outcomes among workers.

Methods: New York City healthcare workers (n = 2030) were surveyed regarding asthma-related symptoms, and moisture and renovation factors at work and at home during the last 12 months.
