Background: A therapeutic vaccine that prevents recurrent tuberculosis would be a major advance in the development of shorter treatment regimens. We aimed to assess the safety and immunogenicity of the ID93 + GLA-SE vaccine at various doses and injection schedules in patients with previously treated tuberculosis.
Methods: This randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase 2a trial was conducted at three clinical sites near Cape Town, South Africa.
Healthy United States-based adult volunteers with no history of travel to leprosy-endemic countries were enrolled for the first-in-human evaluation of LepVax (LEP-F1 + GLA-SE). In total 24 volunteers participated in an open-labelclinicaltrial, with 21 receiving three injections of LepVax consisting of either 2 µg or 10 µg recombinantpolyprotein LEP-F1 mixed with 5 µg of the GLA-SE adjuvant formulation. LepVax doses were provided by intramuscular injection on Days 0, 28, and 56, and safety was evaluated for one year following the final injection.

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively evaluated all consecutive patients who underwent peripheral transluminal angioplasty (PTA) for PAD of the lower extremities as "Out-Patient Admission Protocol" (OPAP) from January 2005 until December 2015. A total of 498 consecutive patients (305 men and 193 women) with mean age of 66±10 (SD) years (range: 37-90 years) were evaluated.

However, finding an inexpensive production system and a VLP scaffold that allows stable incorporation of diverse, large foreign antigens are major challenges in this field.

Adjuvants are combined with vaccine antigens to enhance and modify immune responses, and have historically been primarily crude, undefined entities. Introducing toll-like receptor (TLR) ligands has led to a new generation of adjuvants, with TLR4 ligands being the most extensively used in human vaccines. The present-day distribution suggests that subduction affects lithosphere of all ages, but this is at odds with the theory of thermal convection that predicts that subduction should happen once a critical age has been reached. We used spherical models of mantle convection to show that plate-like behavior and continents cause the seafloor area-age distribution to be representative of present-day Earth.

Objectives: The presence of intravascular foreign bodies is underreported in the literature and is more commonly encountered in clinical practice. We report on a case where an attempt to position a carotid stent resulted in misdeployment of the stent in the femoral artery and its surgical removal.
Methods: A 63-year-old patient admitted to hospital for cerebral stroke underwent thrombolysis for occlusive dissection of right carotid artery and was transferred to our hospital for additional thrombo-aspiration and carotid stenting.
A 56-year-old patient admitted to hospital for the suspicion of an acute coronary syndrome underwent coronary angiography without detection of significant lesions. Seven days later the echocardiography showed acute severe aortic valve insufficiency. Intraoperatively we found a perforated leaflet probably due to lesion during transcatheter procedure.

Papillary fibroelastomas (PFE) are benign endocardial masses and generally originate from the cardiac valves, while PFE arising from the ascending thoracic aorta are an uncommon clinical finding. We report the case of a 78-year-old female who presented to the emergency department with an acute ST segment elevation myocardial infarction. Urgent coronary angiography showed no significant coronary artery obstructive disease but left ventriculography revealed the presence of a highly mobile mass located in the proximal portion of the ascending thoracic aorta.
